In reference to fruitcake, my grandmother’s family was from southern Germany and every Christmas she would make German stollen. It has dried fruits, nuts and some candied citrus zest. You could look up the recipe and maybe you could incorporate some of those into your fruitcake? Side note, my grandma also made an amazing fruitcake every year ❤

I’ve actually had people stare at me as I wash my hands. I don’t know if it’s bc I cover every square inch and my rings or bc of the time I take (1-2 minutes), but they look at me like I’m crazy. All I’ll say is that I’ve not been sick in the last maybe 7 or 8 years and I never caught COVID that I’m aware of. I’m sure I just jinxed myself.

Former ICU nurse. I should get out the old Betadine scrubby and scrub up for 10 minutes with orange foam, being sure to get well under the nails and scrub up to the elbows. Then walk out with my hands up and air drying. It would be quite the show in a public restroom.

In the men's restroom it's so much worse. The amount of times I've seen grown men walk out of the stall and head straight for the door as I'm washing my hands is genuinely alarming. It literally takes 20 seconds I don't understand.

Thanks for the fruit cake love! This is the first time I can recall in 40+ years that I'm not baking with my mom - work, travel, and a death in the family. We're baking later this month instead. I was raised in a Caribbean home. We chop dried fruits and soak in red wine, port wine, brandy, or rum at least a month before we bake. Ideally, the fruit would soak in the alcohol for longer than just a month. A friend from a Caribbean home cooked her fruit in the alcohol since she didn't have enough chopped fruit. We do use some candied fruits in there at times as well.

My Grandmother used to make a recipe quite similar to yours Dr Dray. She usually left about 2 months to let hers sit. Several liquors over the years made their way in her cakes, the last one I remember was blackberry brandy. I adored her fruit cakes and have made it on occasion over the years too. I've made fruit cakes the last few years using the Mary Berry recipe. 1. Soak the Dried (not candied) fruit in rum or brandy for a few weeks before baking. 2, wrapping it in marzipan prior to wrapping in Fondant is such luxury, I recommend! Thank for the content Dr. Dray!

This came as a surprise, but I find any slight skin problem heals quicker with mineral sunscreens. The first time I noticed this was with Blue Lizard. I know, maybe not elegant cosmetically, but So soothing. I have pale skin, so after drying, it looks just fine thanks ... and works with foundation. My 99-year-old wise aunt has advocated zinc for all things skin for decades. Coming from the depression and war-ravaged UK, skin care Had to be Very inexpensive. She said their family was never without white, pasty zinc. Not a popular opinion, and she's not a doctor, but is still a beauty, with beautiful skin. Grandad also always maintained a greenhouse using broken sheets of found glass. They were often the only family with fresh produce. They knew how to keep healthy. Totally agree about fruitcake!

My MIL was a retired nurse, and she always advocated zinc for pretty much everything. I used it as a barrier cream when my mom was in my house on hospice. Now I use it all summer on my face if I am going to be outside for long. Old school but works.

If you haven't tried the Tree Hut scent "ocean glow" you need to! It's such a nice fresh scent. And it comes in every body product they have I believe. The shave oil, body wash, body butter, spray, body oil, and scrub. I believe that scent may be just at Ulta though and not target or walmart.

It’s based on the town where he grew up, which is my home town of Modesto, California. The teens cruised the drag, up and down 10th street. So many famous folks in that movie, including Ron Howard. I never had the measles but I had all the Beatles albums. I was 7 in 1964 so we must be the same age. My dad was in the Air Force and we got the albums then too. Love those days as well as The Beach Boys. Good Days for sure.

Fruit cake having candied fruits varies by locale. In Ireland, it's dried fruit and tbh that tastes much much better.

The candied fruit won’t spoil because sugar just doesn’t rot. I am not sure dried fruit would work, unless you soak it in brandy before making the cake. I have macerated fruit in brandy before putting in a fruited bread.

🖐 hope you had a wonderful holiday. While I do have time off, I have that time to work on the repairs from Helene. Funny how they find more problems . I think I'll be at work before they're done.
