As a solo cruiser and a woman, it's good to know cruise staff is trained to do those things. It seems silly in hindsight, but I'd rather someone come check on me and ensure my safety than potentially end up a statistic. Thank you for sharing this!

I am an older female solo traveler and this happened to me. I left my snoozing card on my door for a few days but I was out and about all the time. I was with a group of people I met in Fortune Teller bar and security came up to me and began to check me out. I was wondering if they thought I was partying too much, but no!! Smiles. It was a wellness check.

I'm happy that Carnival is checking on passengers. Carnival has had its share of complaints from passengers and others that the cruise line should somehow know the whereabouts of all of its cruisers. Can't blame them for going a little overboard (intentional humor) in making sure everyone's okay. The garbage bag part is pretty funny actually.

Had a wellness check on Royal a few years back pre-covid. Hubby wasn't feeling well when we got to cozumel so we decided to skip our early morning excursion and let him rest. We slept in and then just went into cozumel on our own for some shopping/lunch. The next day was a sea day i think so we also slept in and i guess the room steward must've reported it because we got a phonecall in our room asking if we were ok. Glad to know they're looking out for the well-being of the passengers!

I love coming back to a nice clean cabin and the goofy animal towels we would see our cabin Steward several times a day, always have wonderful conversations with him. He was a good guy Luda.

I never happened to me, but I never used the Snoozin' door sign for more than a few hours at a time, & I always bring 1 empty bag (ex. Trash bag, laundry bag, etc.). However I have forgotten to bring other things (ex. My fan 😂). As a DV survivor, I'm glad the employees check on the passengers. I hope your group enjoys the rest of the cruise. 💜💛

Hotels are the same way. We have to check the room every two or 3 days just to make sure everything is okay in the room and that you're okay. There have been times when someone has had their do not disturb sign on the door for several days and they passed away. So that's why we have to do wellness checks.

Hilton Hotels do this as well! At Disneyland we had our sign up & both the manager & security called and knocked when we came back from the parks and asked if we were okay. It was jarring but I felt good knowing the hotel had procedures in place for "just in case" moments.

I was feeling Ill on a recent carnival cruise, and elected to stay in my cabin for a couple days to rest up, with the snoozin sign on my door, security entered my cabin with me in it, to ‘check on me’ Very unexpected and not appreciated.

Evelyn, As I wrote above I travel solo also. I always feel very safe when I am on board, I think a cruise ship is one of the safest places to be. I do use my “ in a crowd of people I don’t know skills” and basic common sense. Smiles.

I have a similar story from the Celebration a few weeks ago when we were on the ship. Overall I was really impressed with the security team on the Carnival Celebration. Super professional.

Hi Tony. Love the baby that came to visit and show a little love. So cute. Glad you had a good time with the family. I think it's great that security checked on that couple with the sign on the door. I had the same experience at a hotel, only 3 nights so I didn't feel the housekeepers needed to clean. I was surprised when the security staff knocked very loudly and wanted to know if we were Ok, because I saw the housekeeper every morning and exchanged dirty towels for clean ones. I am happy with the policy, good they check on people

Had something similar happen in Las Vegas. We didn't have a sign out but we had not called for housekeeping to come clean our room since we arrived. It had only been a couple of days. We happened to be in our friend's room when security knocked on their door for the same reason. They just wanted to make sure everything was okay.

This happens in hotels too - and especially in Las Vegas - if you keep your do-not-disturb sign out for more than a day someone will knock on your door to check on you. Usually in Vegas I don't need or want housekeeping until I run out of something, and I'll get periodic visits from "management." Once I think they forgot to clear the "check on him" notation in the computer and I had three "visits" in one afternoon.

Yes, this has happened to me. I travel solo often and so I don't need all those towel changes. I'm a travel neat freak as well! Royal flagged me at the bar later once I used my card to buy a drink. Security took me aside and questioned me letting me know that the room attendant hadn't seen me in a couple of days. 😂 So now I know don't let it go more than 2 days.

i was on MSC last month, and didn't want my room cleaned every day. on the 3rd day i left the DND light on, i received a note from housekeeping stating that if i wanted my room cleaned, I needed to check in with them via cust serv desk, or the stateroom phone. no wellness check, however i did however see my attendant in that timeframe, so maybe that's why

We had something similar happen on Princess. We always travel in a full suite - especially on a 15-day cruise. The ship was a Noro ship - full blown...CDC even boarded us, we were denied entry into several ports...it was horrible. So, we thought it prudent to just spend our time on our substantial balcony and avoid as many people as possible. Kept the do not disturb sign out. I caught the room steward peeking between partitions at us from the balconies on either side of us on several occasions but didn't say anything. Well, he turned us in as being sick. Even though we weren't. We were remanded down to the medical bay to prove we weren't sick. We argued saying we were not going down with a bunch of sick people when we were doing our damnedest to avoid getting sick. We explained our reasoning, assured the powers that be that we were fine. All for naught. We were escorted down to sick bay where we proved we were not sick. But, you guessed it, we were 3 days later. To say we were pissed off was the biggest understatement ever made in our lives. It was our 53rd cruise and we'd successfully avoided Noro on all of the previous ones. btw - it was our last cruise on Princess.

Good to know Carnival keeps an eye on their passengers. Don't know how it's done in other countries, but Grand Hyatt here in São Paulo has a disclaimer in the DND sign that they *will* check in on the guests and also check the room, if the DND sign stays on the doorknob for longer than 24h.

Never have had that happen. This is one of the reasons I like the Medallion on Princess cruises. They can see if you're in your cabin or not even with a "sleep hanger" on the door. Love the monkey!! Someday I will get to do this. Thanks for sharing :)

Had something similar at Disney World in Florida. We set our trashbag outside our door. We kept our room clean and tidy. Did not need room services. Hung the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door. After the second day started getting calls from the floor supervisor and then from the front desk. On the evening of the third day I let them in to look around. They thanked us for keeping the room so clean and left.

Well as they say you learn something every day. I did not know that you couldn't leave your sign out. That was good information and something to keep in mind for my hopefully soon next cruise! I usually don't put that sign out unless I'm actually sleeping and then I usually take it back in in the morning so I'm not too worried but I really didn't know that information. Keep it coming!

Once, while on a Princess cruise I didn't leave the room for 2 days. Had some back issues and the muscle relaxers knocked me out. Room attendant knocked both days and told him my issue and only needed towels. On the afternoon of the 2nd day I had 3 Princess employees, (officers from how they dressed)knocking. I hobbled to the door and told them of my predicament. Assured them I didn't need medical. They were very polite but thank goodness the 3rd day I was up and about. I was appreciative of their concern.

A friend of mine had this exact thing happen to her on an Alaskan cruise. She found a voice mail on her room phone to call guest services, and then guest services sent security to her room to check on her.

We had this happen to us too a few years back. We just didn't feel the need to make our steward clean our rooms daily. But, because of this, security asked us to open the door and let them in for questioning and to ensure the Mrs was ok as well. Now we just have them clean daily. It's just easier for all parties it seems.

On the last cruise we were just on a month ago, the cabin steward was seen on day 2. We made our request to her and never seen her again, not even in the hallways. I know she was around since we got clean towels when we needed them. No need to make the bed since we did it ourselves.

We would often put out the Snoozin' sign (especially in the afternoons, since two cleanings a day is a bit much); but we had a very good relationship with our steward, and would talk to him even when we were nowhere near our room.

I had that happen a couple of years ago. I was exhausted on a long cruise and slept a lot for a couple of days. They had seen Fran come and go, but not me. I guess they thought he might've harmed me so they called the room, then they broke in, because I slept through the call. Glad they are checking on people!

A lady didn't come down to meet the bus to go home. My SGT was sent up to the room to check. She must have died in her sleep.

We were on Disney wonder about 10 years ago, and we had two cabins because it was two adults and three children. Well, the kids decided that they didn’t want to sleep in the cabin that was like two doors down and so we all stayed in one cabin. And the cabin steward noticed that nobody had been staying in that cabin and panicked, and came to the other cabin door to check in. I thought that was super awesome!

I stayed a week at an expensive rental timeshare in Florida and had a really difficult time with the Manager over my request to not have daily housekeeper service. I don't like to plan my day around being out of the Apartment for them to tidy up, and I can make my own bed. Finally I figured out why the Manager was so adamant that I have a daily visit. She admitted that once a "guest" had set up a Meth Lab in a suite that exploded, so the daily Tidy up is really a security check. I compromised and allowed the daily check for security, but not a Tidy-up and we were both happy.

My first cruise there was a passenger that had a sign on his door from Athens to Alexandria. When they finally opened his door, in Alexandria,he was deceased. What made it worse was none of his contact info was correct, we were in a Muslim country after dark, and it was a weekend and getting ahold of the consulate was difficult! Yes, we left a few hours late but the communication helped everyone chill.

In the hotel business this is quite common. Most hotels will have a two + policy where if your DND is on your door more than two days, they'll do a wellness check. People do get sick when they travel, some maybe party too hard (drugs, alcohol), and sometimes people do pass away (natural causes). But it is also to check that the room isn't being damaged (smoking, getting trashed). So, good on crusing in general to have this policy in place as well. 🎉

The sign on the door for two days was a red flag to me and asking for a garbage bag was a bit weird. It's like when you haven't seen a neighbor for a while and you see mail and packages piling up on the porch, it makes you wonder if all is ok. I think security did a great job. You never know what might happen and Carnival doing this makes me very happy knowing I can feel safe on the ship. WTG Carnival

Ok this one was perfect for how I like these shows!! I get it most people enjoy a much longer and colorful show and definitely nothing wrong with it!!! Everybody has preferences and obviously while the normal format is a bit long for me, I have a choice to fast forward. Tiny, you are really doing a great job. I said it before and will say it again, it is your show and it is amazing!!

I cruise and go on resort vacations SOLO. My cruise cabin and condo, hotel room is so neat that it looks like nobody is there. I put my stuff away and keep my personal hygiene and makeup bags in the bathroom put away also, towels are hung up. The way the room looks at check is the way it looks when I leave it everyday and at checkout. I just got off a Celebrity cruise and my cabin attendant met me the first day so she knew what I looked like and passed me in the hallway also a few times. Well one day when she ran into me, she asked me if stayed in my cabin because her supervisor said it looked like nobody was staying there. hehehe I fell out laughing. She asked the cabin attendant what she was cleaning because the cabin was not filled. I told the cabin attendant that I am just really tidy. I showed her that my clothes were hanging in the closet and in the drawers and she said that I didn't even have stuff in the bathroom, I said I most certainly do, my personal hygiene bag and my makeup bag is right there under the sink in view. She said she was just concerned and so was the supervisor. I understand that and need to be more messy in the future. I have had the same situations when I am at hotels and at a resort. Sorry if I'm too tidy HOWEVER I do appreciate that they notice how we're living and it's good also for a welfare check. I appreciate that. I prefer to travel SOLO or if I travel with a group, I prefer to have my space and peace. Good lookng out on the part of the cruiseline for that couple.

Yeah I had the same thing happened to me. I wanted to be left alone, no room clean. My choice. Boat security came knocking on my door I was not in the best mood he then asked how many in my cabin I said one he asked if he could look, I opened the door said look and get out of my cabin. I paid for cruise to be left alone. I just went on the same Cruise a year earlier with a co-worker of mine we had the door hanging sign the entire time. Her and I never got bothered about it. And nobody ever asked us or cleaned our room we did it ourselves.

I am here 1st. I think its great they check on you. When i travel alone i set up a schedule in advance with the cabin attendant, just because i do not need cleanup everyday🚢😊
