i completely agree with you about choosing CAA over PA and MD! all throughout high school and college i thought i’d go to medical school and even thought about pa school for a little until i found out about CAAs. much respect but just realized it wasn’t for me anymore. i don’t need to be the top dog in charge of everything all the time. as long as i’m making my money i’m happy!

I definitely believe whether CRNA and CAA is paid is dependent on hospital, it is nice to point out that in as much there are many hospitals that will pay CRNA higher that CAA, I have not seen any hospital that will pay CRNA lower than CAA but equal. Then I case of independency, upto 40 states allow CRNA to work independently while about 20 to 22 States have Opted out.

As someone who also has older parents, I also am leaning towards PA or CAA due to faster schooling and wanting to be able to take care of my parents. However, as someone who lives in NJ, it scares me that the CAA is limited to so few states. Did your parents move with you to Florida? Or did they stay in New York? How did you go about making this decision to potentially make more money but be so far away from your family members?

Great question, I will discuss this more in the future in a video but recently PA has opened to CAAs. As a native northeastern resident, I find this has a lot of potential in addition to DC/VT/OH.

Hi! RT here with 9 years of experience, I was in PA school but had a rough time adjusting to the fast-paced schooling. I was off school for almost 9 years full time. The didactic year was 9 months and a typical PA program is 12-13 months, so the load was def a little bit heavier in this program, taking 8 classes per semester and 9 in the springs. I def learned how to study but it was too late to get my grades up so i ended up taking withdrawing so my GPA wouldnt be affected. I wanted to give myself a second try in getting a masters program now that i know how to study better. Did you know anyone that switched from PA school to CAA?

Quick correction for those reading the comments. When answering the difference in responsibilities between CRNA and AA this video is misleading. While these two groups may be treated similarly in a given hospital that is that individual hospital or medical groups choice. At anytime the decision could be made to expand anesthesia services by having CRNAs run their rooms independently. CRNAs are trained as independent experts in anesthesiology and practice completely independently in every US state and territory. AA’s must work in an ACT type setting no matter what. The reason average CRNA pay is higher is because every state has CRNAs practicing independently, many who own or are parters of anesthesiology groups. CRNAs can also independently practice chronic pain management.

@@CAALifestyle state opt for CMS supervision requirements doesn’t really matter for independent practice it matters for billing. That is evident by the fact that currently only 19 states and Guam have passed opt out legislation but independent CRNA practices including CRNA only anesthesiology groups and departments flourish in every single state.

@@CAALifestyle While this article does affrim that CRNAs practice chronic pain management it is outdated at this point and CRNA's chronic pain management practices has continued to grow exponentially.
