Knowing how to drive a dual clutch at low speeds is no different than driving a stick shift car. If you modulate the throttle correctly you don't "confuse" the dual clutch software. It's actually a great transmisission for drivers that understand how it works. Having said that, the average driver is better off with a more traditional automatic.

My Mazda CX-90 has a wet clutch, and it’s similar. If you drive it like a normal car, it can be annoying, but once you learn to drive it, you can really feel the benefits. But I have decades’ experience with a manual, so that helps.

Another great video, thanks! I've driven 26,000 miles in 13 months with the dct in my Santa Fe 2.5T. I've owned many manuals and drive this similarly. I think if you understand the difference and "feel" the car, the dct is fine. I also believe the newer BMW X5 (I'm fairly obsessed with it) is a mild hybrid.

The dual clutch transmission in our 2012 FIAT 500 worked faultlessly over the 12 years we owned it. On top of that, it was faster 0-100 kmh than the standard 5 speed. A peppy little car that made a quick trip Toronto-Florida-Toronto without issue. The cruise worked well with the transmission. A highly underrated car in my experience. Sold it because we needed a four door.

Decades of quality makes it for me. The Toyota hybrid compents are tried and true. The Car Nut says the new Crown Signia is a parts bin vehicle and he thinks that is a good thing. The Signia makes use of a hybrid system and gas motor that have been running pretty much trouble free in other Toyota vehicles for years. Its called building on sucess.

Stellantis increased the price of their vehicles like crazy in year 2020-2021 and now they complaint their vehicles are not selling well. Their product quality has also dropped with multiple problems reported in their vehicles across the lineup. How the hell are they charging 80K+ for grand Cherokee PHEV. The reason Stellantis is in trouble, in my opinion, is because of its CEO. He wanted short term gain, so he cut costs, by using cheaper materials, and therefore poorer quality and reliability, and raised vehicle prices. So he got a compensation package pay of $39 million in 2023. He was the CEO since Stellantis was formed in 2021. He signed a 5-year contract, and will retire in 2026. Like many other CEO’s, he just cares about his pay, and the hell with the company, its customers, and its future.

regarding the question about the Subaru Outback... I bought mine BECAUSE it's a wagon (the Wilderness trim). There really isn't anything out there like it... a wagon on stilts. I mean, if you think about it... the Toyota Signia is a wagon... I don't care what Toyota wants to call it... but it's a wagon.... So, some people say they wouldn't be caught dead in a "stationwagon"... that's fine... go get a crossover and look like every other vehicle on the road 🙄

Hybrids have proven to be an excellent choice. We can thank the early designs for what we have today. Toyota Prius in Japan in 1997, followed by the Honda Insight in 1999 led the way. They might not be the best option in areas that have extreme temperatures. It's a good idea to get an extended warranty on these vehicles. It's not a bad idea to know the type of battery and current replacement costs as that will give you as idea of the cost later on. Batteries can range from $2k to $8k. There are also other problems known for these vehicles. There are differences in type of Hybrids with plug-in having some advantages when it comes to emissions and systems. There are a lot of articles about know problems. Keep in mind that warranties for emissions systems are limited on new vehicle warranties and also extended warranties. There may be little or no coverage on these systems and it's one of the problem areas. I would recommend only keeping one for 4-6 years and trading in. The reasons are that they get better each year. Newer vehicles have safety changes and designs that improve every few years. Keep in mind that an extended warranty can have a refundable amount of not used and depending on your mileage. Also extended warranty purchase cost can be haggled over. In general, one should be able to get a good warranty for about $2k covering 7-10 years. The one on my 2025 Kia Carnival Hybrid SX cost $2,200 for 10 years 100,000 miles and $250. Deductible. They asked for $5400 as a starting price with no deductible. So, one has to be smart and know some dealerships are all about making a lot of profit on add-ons. Today's vehicles have a lot of high-tech systems and several computer chips. Repairs can be very costly due to training and certification to work on these and also, it's harder to repair vs to make a new car. Costs to assemble the systems are lower. Repairing involves tearing down (removing) systems and parts just to get to the area that needs repair and that increases the cost. $2k for a warranty is cheap when you divide the cost over the months and years covered. Kia vehicles have one of the best overall warranties in the industry. I always buy Kia vehicles due to this one fact. However, one can purchase any brand and add an extended warranty. It's just more important to add an extended warranty when a brand has a short coverage like 3 years 36k miles is really nothing. Keep really good maintenance records and do all recalls or you can be denied coverage. This is the number one error people make is not keeping detailed records. Also keep in mind that vehicles today track your driving and speeding habits. That includes hard breaking and a host of bad driving habits. They sell these reports to the insurance reporting agency. Also, they may be able use this data to deny your warranty claim. Some people have had insurance rates increased due to this. Perhaps that's good for crazy unsafe drivers! Read articles online about vehicle companies collecting and selling your data and that rules are different in each region as some governments have laws on place. Consumers have to complain about this to government officials and get changes made on privacy. For now - your smart vehicle is watching you and collecting data to include everywhere you drive and stop! The privacy and data collecting polices are really hard to find and understand and sometimes you can't opt out!

21:02 was in Vancouver last week, and rent a Model Y AWD with 20 inch wheels. Overall, it was actually pretty good, fairly normal to live with compared to a ICE car. But for a $65k CAD car, the interior really is meh at best (and noisy/not quiet enough), especially the centre console, cheap materials and scratches all over. The ride with the 20s is shockingly bad over potholes, speed bumps etc. the paint was very poor as well, few spots have what looks like “paint drip”, like when you paint your wall, and used too much paint and it runs off. I would wait for the new one - Juniper, as it should be an improvement like the Highland.

Good question. My Volvo has a 41 mile battery (plugged into a normal household outlet overnight) and a 143 hp motor that delivers its maximum torque immediately. It easily propels the car, silently, around town. On the highway the gas engine kicks in for a maximum of 455 hp when needed. (I just did a 400 mile trip over 3 days - plugged in each night - 56 mpg.) 21,000 miles since Nov ‘22, 106 mpg, about $30/mo to charge. My last four-cylinder ICE got 29.7 mpg driven the same way.

Scandinavian plug-in hybrid anecdote: Just did 170 miles to the OC Md. beach in my 455 hp, 523 !b ft, S60 Recharge. Did 3 days around town on the battery. With a full battery, made the 170 mile return trip today. 385 miles total, burned 6 gallons. (The trips to and from were about 20% interstate 65 to 70 mph, the balance 40 to 55 MPH state roads. (The secret: With the route in navigation, the battery is apportioned over the entire trip, where ever advantageous. It’s a secret because no one reads the owners manual.) My 16 gallon gas tank currently holds about 7 gallons. I have not bought gas since Sept 6. Lifetime since Nov, ‘22, 106 mpg. I’m going to pass on an EV.

Here’s something we can wrap our brains around: A Lexus will have on average 1.35 reliability issues in the third year of ownership. A Lincoln on average will have 2.5 reliability issues in the third year of ownership, so slightly more than one more issue than a Lexus. One more issue than a Lexus? I’d be sleeping just fine. I visited some countries in Asia and Africa recently. Impressed with the Chinese EVs and hybrids. Almost half the price of a similar Japanese car and far lower than a German car, there is no way these companies can compete with Chinese. You need to compete in terms of price and innovation. German cars have too much markups and high maintenance, parts costs are out of the roof. In the end, you cannot stop them with tariff controls. There are huge markets in Asia and Africa. Europe producing outdated and expensive brands may lose with low reliability. Japanese have been out of reach for many in the last few years. They also failed to innovate.

@@stea2494 I know. I think the problem with BMW owners/leasees is they neglect the maintenance and mistreat the cars. Like any German product it’s designed to be driven according to specifications. The worry with buying a two year old BMW is how that car was treated, since new because they don’t tolerate neglect.

@@mervinprone in my case it was 1.5 years old. 15,000 km by the original owner and 17,000 by the dealer as a loaner/shuttle. Assuming the dealer did their part. It was only 32,000 km (19 miles)

It never makes sense to me that I am paying a $20-30k more for hybrid / EV premium over gas vehicles and by time the 'saving' evens out it's time for another vehicle 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

PHEVs and hybrids are faster than their ICE only models. It’s not just the gas savings, you’re also getting the performance.

Hybrids and EVs are not 20-30k more lol. Hybrids are usually 1-2k more than the ICE equivalent, so it's not much more at all.
