I think when they mentioned the Korean twins and theft, they were specifically referring to the problem in America with the lack of immobilizers in KIA & Hyundai products without push-button start, and that they could be stolen using just a USB cable as a result. In Canada immobilizers have been mandatory for some time, so we don't have the same issue.
@GlennLaycock-lc5qb
@GlennLaycock-lc5qb Жыл бұрын
Yes, only in the USA - if you get a Kia and/or Hyundai with the simple ignition key - just get one newer than 2021 I believe. If you buy used or older with a traditional key; just price in the cost of an immobilizer if it has not had one put in yet.

Car thief is a huge issue (google "most stolen" and it is usually is vehicles that are volume or demand leaders) I think there was a recall, that stopped the USB method working, but so many ways to steel vehicles. @@siegfriedfarnon9002

I live in Maryland and the problem here is they are using USB chords to bypass the ignitions on the Korean Twins.This past weekend, local police were giving away free steering wheel locks for certain models. We also have the problem of stolen catalytic converters on ALL cars!

I'm sure the manufacturers are really frustrated with the lack of effort from the government...especially when they get to sell more cars as they are stolen in the first place. One of the big problems in eastern Canada stems from the dealerships themselves. Staff at the dealership have access to your car, your fob and your address on file. They (dealership staff) simply duplicate your fob when you take it in for servicing and then pick up the vehicle in your driveway when they need it. 4 Ram pickup trucks were stolen in my neighborhood all sold and serviced at the same dealership in the same week. Works out well for the dealer. The insurance pays the owner for the vehicle and the customer buys a new one 😂😂😂 Manufacturers are able to open your door remotely if you are locked out, Tesla is able to do remote diagnostics on your car, manufactures can see if you were in an accident and actually call for help but apparently they can't locate it when it is stolen or disable it when it is placed in park 😂😂😂 If manufacturers like KIA and Hyundai were made to pay penalties for manufacturing vehicles that are easy to break into, then you would see real change. In the meantime consumers pay more insurance premiums to subsidize manufacturers! Even the police call it a victimless crime and don't really investigate the theft. They just tell you to call your insurance company and buy a new car😂😂😂

3:30 I have a feeling the poster was specifically talking about those cars brands being boosted by using USB keys. In Canada, it’s regulated that all cars need to have immobilizers, so that specific problem doesn’t exist in Canada.

Another option for that 2016 CX-5 owner, if the option for Apple Carplay or Android Auto hasn't been installed, he can go online and get the free update to add it to the infotainment software. Since Mazda did software updates to allow the feature to be added to their infotainment for as early as 2014.

Not sure if the 450h+ buyer is in the US or Canada, but in the US the F-sport package only adds about $1300 to the price. Also, speaking for the US at least, if you're willing to drive a few hours to pick one up and you're not too picky about colors, the 450h+ can be found. We drive 8 hours to pick ours up, in the exact exterior and interior color that we wanted, without waiting. Luckily the mark-up was less than $1000 on ours, but some dealer will mark it up thousands. Good luck. It's a great overall car.

I won't order a 2024 Lyriq because I do not want to have to use an adapter to charge the car. GM is going to the NACS standard, but will only supply an adapter for the 2024's. Since it is a low volume car, this is unacceptable to me - so I will wait until they either come to their senses or the 2025 models start getting built. I have a Tesla charger at home, the only charging network for longer trips that makes sense (ie. working chargers maintained properly) is Tesla. I think the Lyriq looks great, has a super comfortable front seat and actually looks like a real car inside. I will buy one - eventually.

Hello to both of you from Quebec! I was wondering what is your preference between the cx5 and cx50. Do you consider the reliability of the cx50 lower because its made in US? Also, regarding the cx5 getting a new gen in 2025, do you suggest to wait a couple of years before buying or you are okay buying the first year of a new gen (in terms of potential reliability issues due to kinks not ironed out)? Thank you!
