I very holy simplex priest was an American Fr. Solanus Casey, who died in 1957. He was able to spiritual counsel but did not preach nor hear confessions. His counsel was sought after especially for the sick and the dying.

@@diannealice3601 He may have been a saintly priest, but he was beatified by Pope Francis, whom - as all popes since the death of Pius XII. - is not considered to be be a valid pope by those who are for good reasons holding the position of sedevacantism or sedeprivationism, the latter position being the one of Bishop Sanborn and the Roman Catholic Institute. I think it is possible that a future pope will confirm or approve some or perhaps most of the beatifications and canonisations, which have taken place since Pope Pius XII. passed away and I likewise suppose that Bishop Sanborn would not excluse the possiblity or even the probability, of such an opinion. Although, His Excellency or Mr Heiner are always free to correct me at any time. 😊

The comment about some Eastern priests not hearing confessions or preaching is correct. This was especially common in places that were under Ottoman rule, like Greece or in the Balkans. As was noted, the faculties to hear confessions or preach were only given to priests with sufficient education. (Many village priests only had the equivalent of a high school education.) In the past, an itinerant preacher--in Greek, "ierokyrix"--would go from village to village to perform these tasks. Alternatively, the laity could also travel to a nearby monastery for confession. Today, even though almost all Greek Orthodox priests (both in America and abroad) have a seminary education, they will often have to wait several years from ordination before they receive faculties to hear confessions. (The flip side is that the laity went to confession far less frequently than one would find in the West or in Slavic countries.)

I find it hard to believe that the Novus Ordo priests have gone through thousands of hours in Latin and theology in order to hear confession.

I did not have any idae of an simplex priest. I did not know, that they were present in the Roman Catholic Church.I think indeed, that such a priest, inspite the church needed such priests, rhey will do more bad than good. Thank You for your explenation in the video.

? I am wondering about the Sunday obligation. I always assumed that turning up at the Sacrifice of the Mass was to be at Calvary equally not turning up is just not a possibility without extremely significant excuse / impossibility to attend. The teaching of the Church that skipping the Sunday obligation is a mortal sin makes perfect sense to me. Can you please elaborate?

In German, there‘s a proper term for the priest ordained ad Missam; they‘re called altarists. Before the Tridentine reform they weren‘t terribly infrequent in Europe. His Excellency is certainly right that having them today would bear quite a risk with it. Maybe a very small number, personally known to and approved by seminary rectors such as himself, would be of use to the Church, meriting graces in abscondito.

Is there any official statement on the institute's policy on and relations with other Sedevacantist groups like CMRI, SGG, SSPV, etc.?

According to all merciful Bergolio, no one is in Hell. So why the need for such an intense study of theology in order to hear Confession?
