Anything related to Chinese, you ever knew or heard of, could help you learn the language. This program gives lot of such hints to make it easier (and hopefully fun as well). Let`s use our wildest imagination. Let`s bring all possible connections. Let`s not limit ourselves in language learning (and pretty much in anything).

Hello Jiayi, I'm listening to the video about Questions and I keep hearing you say "Shen me" when you have on the screen "she me." Why is that? Please explain. Thank you, in advance! It's 6:36 in the morning on Thursday, March 28th, here in Riverside County California where I live and listen to you, on the west coast of the U.S. I'm about to go to sleep in a few minutes because I'm an insomniac and my wife snores, so we can't sleep in the same room anymore at the same time. And we are both retired. LOL!

Hi Reggie, thanks for listening so carefully. I have to admit that there’s inconsistency in these questions videos about 什么. I always pronounce “shen me” as the dictionary indicated then (I talk about my school time in the 90s). But in real life people just shortcut it to “she me” and some dictionaries also show “she me” as alternative. I think my pinyin generator give both. But I should’ve sticked to only one version, or I should’ve pointed the background out! Sorry for the confusion. At this stage I just try not to overwhelm audiences too much about pronunciation differences across time and country. 什么is not the only case, 谁 also have two now (Shui and shei). And there’re many more. I hope you get some good sleep! I live in Switzerland and now it’s afternoon. Best regards!
