Thanks for sharing this, Nick. I recently switched from a very basic DAW to FL Studio Producer. Big learning curve, but it's great to get some tips from a professional! And listening back to the 100 or so pieces I created in the past, I can hear that the biggest issue was always with sound balance in the mixes - so I also got some pro headphones and a separate sound mixer. Makes a huge difference!

"Instruments that breathe" I have always been drawn to the spacious sound you blend into your synths. In my biz it would be good orchestration. Lost of room in your sounds. But you have a sound of luminous pastels that are so appealing and instantly engaging.

This is great, thanks for uploading it. Missing streams always feels bad. Lighting setup is great. Maybe it's just the way you've cut your comments together, but I was surprised to hear you doubt Phantom Menace as a mix. It's not a great film, but it's got great sound, fun actors and memorable lines. And however badly they're presented -- it has ideas running underneath it which are roughly true and somewhat touching. It's not a great film, but nor is it a forgettable film. And I find your music is good at that sort of stuff. I'd never bother watching a Winne the Pooh movie, but 'Boy and Bear' kicks me in the gut every time. I've never enjoyed Bambi as a film, as a child or today, but 'Bambino' plucks some of the rawest essence out of it and shows me how to feel it. If anything, Phantom Menace strikes me as the Star Wars film that'd lend itself best to you. It's got a wide range of great things which never 'fit in' well enough to be properly felt on-screen. The silliness of Jar Jar, the foreboding of Yoda, the careful independence of Qui-gon, the aspirations and subtle, tragic, downfall of Anakin, the lurking menace of Maul. All great things that could've been greater. There's a reason it's made into memes. Not because it's stupid (though it is), but because underneath the humorous stupidity there are threads of joy or truth.
@Pogomix4 жыл бұрын
Really good point. I agree, anything with Ben Burtt on sound design is perfect material. And yeah, Jar Jar is almost a remix himself. There's definitely potential. :)

I stopped pre-ordering games a long time ago for exactly that reason. Not only does it mean they can get away with releasing an unfinished product, it also just encourages them to go for a second dip into your wallet by moving content that should be in the main game into DLC. Forcing a title to stand on it's own from launch to drive sales will have a huge effect on the overall quality of games.
