Quiberon / France. An exact replica of a warship built by Peter the Great in 1703 to ensure the defense of St. Petersburg, the Russian frigate "Shtandart" banned in many ports is anchored off Port Haliguen.
Refused this summer in many sea festivals, as part of compliance with European measures, this Russian ship obtained exceptional authorization to refuel in Quiberon, without docking. Monitored by the authorities, the frigate that arrived Monday was still in Quiberon Bay Tuesday evening opposite Castero beach. A European decree of April 2022 prohibits all Russian ships from accessing European ports, even for replicas of historic ships such as the Shtandart. Called to order in June 2024 by the European Council, France has since almost systematically refused to dock in its ports.
Built in 1999 by volunteers, the Russian frigate has been sailing the seas of Europe ever since. According to the website dedicated to this ship, "it is a living museum, on which hundreds of trainees of all ages have developed their sailing skills". The real Shtandart frigate, built in 1703 according to the plans of Tsar Peter I, was the first warship of the Baltic Fleet.
