If no of lone pair(s) on central atom (L)+ no of sigma bond(s) formed by central atom (S)+no of dative bond(s) formed by central atom(D)=7,then the central atom is sp3d3 hybridized...if L+S+D= 5 then the central atom in the molecule is sp3d hybridized..what do u say?

Seriously.......u forgot about CH2(double bond)C (double bond) CH2.......the middle CH2 will be sp hybridzed.....but according to ur theory it should have been sp2 hybridized which is wrong....... don't fill wrong things in people's head man......
@Knowbee
@Knowbee 6 жыл бұрын
You're wrong. The middle C in your example would have double bonds on both sides and two hydrogen bonds. Thats impossible! That would give it 4 sigma bonds and two pi bonds. Thats 12 bonding electrons around the carbon that generally likes to follow an octet rule. You cant just make up organic molecules. And I didn't come up with the rule! I wish I did! It's a commonly practiced method by many. And change your attitude man. You need to relax.

Hey ok.......sorry CH2(double bond)C(double bond )CH2 .....this is the sum .......the middle one is SP but according to u it's sp2 so that's where u went wrong
@Knowbee
@Knowbee 6 жыл бұрын
No, you're not using the quick and dirty method correctly. If the middle C has two double bonds, that gives it a steric number of 2. (remember, each double bond counts as 1 steric point) So the quick and dirty method would say the middle carbon is sp hybridized. Dude, so many people use this method with success. I didn't make it up. Its common in Organic Chemistry. Look at all the comments here. A lot of people get it.
