When I do refrained beans, I just take my hand mixer to my beans. No mashing. Hubby’s cousin freaked out when she first saw me do it. She’s been doing ot for over six years now.

I eat no added fat refried beans on rice... from home canned beans. I do this just to keep things low fat though. I don't do a traditional refried bean. I add in more spices. I am sure I would freak out most because I "don't do it right". That is okay though. It is cheap, yummy, on my diet and flavored to my liking. I hope you keep experimenting. It is always fun to see how others do it.

I used my homemade version of FIESTA RANCH in my Spanish rice tonight I just added 2 tbsp to 2 cups of yellow rice mix and added a jar of my chunky tomato gravy and it was a big hit and plenty leftover for a smoked sausage and rice bake or jambalaya 👍🏼

I teach friends how to can, so I'm curious which resource said home canned food has to be boiled for 10 minutes before eating. Healthy Canning said the USDA says it's not necessary, but I can't find that myself. Also, can't wait to try this bean recipe - looks great!

Yum* Growing up we ate allot Bean Sandwiches. So when I am missing my mom back home I eat Bean burritos, or tamales🤣 If you like Anaheim, you can grow them. And Roast/ Peel them then cut up into small pieces and Cann* them. I no longer have to buy those little green chilies in those tiny cans. It's time consuming but worth it to me. I was totally excited to find the canning recipe. I use them with my beans sometimes ( actually everything🤣) along with a little bacon grease and garlic/ salt. You can also freeze the Anaheim flat in a container for casseroles, etc.. I need to Cann more beans myself.

We like taking black beans and mixing it with roasted onion basmati rice and adding a ton of steamed veggies to it. Add a drizzle of teriyaki sauce to it. So good! And meatless! My husband has lost 40lbs in 2 months just from eating lower carbs and replacing some of our meat based meals 1-2 times a week. Salads are a staple here BUT sometimes you want a hot and hearty meal....without the meat. 😊👍🏻

Nah, we don't do keto diet here, My husband watches his carb intake, but for the kiddos we feed them a healthy, well balanced diet as much as we can, with an occasional treat thrown in. Beans are very healthy for your colon and bowels and have been proven to help prevent certain cancers of that area. :)

NO!!!! No question is stupid! It's so hard to decipher sometimes, there are so many people on low/no carb diets lately. I talked to my kids pediatrician, who says a well balanced diet is best and healthiest for kiddos. So, thats what I try to stick with as best as I can. My hubby has been eating low carb, but he even eats black bean burgers. haha

I just opened the 1/2 pint of Fiesta beans. I just had to give them a try. (I was afraid they might have flat soured because I fell asleep while the canner was cooling... but they didn't). They needed a bit of salt, but other than that they were wonderful. I kind of wish I had watched this video first because it looks so amazing! .. but I have more canned So I can try it later.

i've always used sour cream in making refried beans... why have i never thought of cream cheese?!! heather, you're a genius chef! i really, really want those red pots from aldi's... but we have orange ones already (i didn't buy them, so i can't complain.. i'd have chosen a different color, tho.. lol). i only use those pans or cast iron for cooking usually. definitely trying these

I am confused about why you don't taste until it hits a boil. I get that it would kill bacteria, but you don't do that with your fruit or jams and jelly, so why with the beans?

Chris Jams and Jellies are preserved in the sugar. Pressure canned items are different they are preserved in an environment created by the canner. In the event something went wrong bringing back up to a temperature that can kill any lingering bacteria is recommended. hope that helps
