Quick and Easy Ice Door Repair

Here I show you the problem with my GE refrigerator ice maker door and how I fixed it. The repair is really easy to do and will save an expensive service call. The ice maker is now working just like new. Be sure to watch the whole video to see the mistakes I made.

Same problem on a GE Profile. FIXED in 30 minutes. Great video. and many thanks. Repair guy said " probably solinoid - $150 for parts and service call". So I owe Jake a case of beer!

Hey Jake ... AWESOME video, thanks, that saved me 150 bucks I am sure! I did the repair in 20min, and actually, you can save a step and NOT remove the white plastic flap. I simply took out the drum with the piston part, used the metal brush wheel to clean up the piston, leaving it very clean, and cleaned out the interior with wd40 and a rag. Worked like a charm!!!! Thanks again for putting this up! Daniel

I took it all apart but don’t know how to put the spring back in, and the flap won’t work at all. Please help or show a close up of how it’s supposed to be. Thanks

Jake, my flap won't open. I'm female and fearless but intimidated about taking apart those pieces because I'm afraid I won't get it back together. But here is my question, since the flap won't open, can I decently assume it's electrical? I sure would love your advice. Haven't used the ice dispenser in years and it would be awesome if it was just cleaning a part like you did. Not sure how to look for your reply if you do, but will check comments on this video and pray you get notifications or something. Have a blessed day!

what kind of refrigerator is it? If it's like mine, you just need to tug on the plastic housing around the opening very gently. Once you get that off you can get a better idea of what is going on behind it. I imagine most ice door flaps work in a pretty similar way.
