Hi Chelsea! I'm pretty new to your channel, but I'm home sick, so I've been binge-watching backwards. You have such a warm and inviting demeanor, and it makes me feel like I'm curled up sick on the sofa with mom puttering in the kitchen. I mean, we're probably close to the same age (mid-40s), but you give that vibe, and it's very comforting. Thanks for keeping me company!

I just found your channel on a recommendation from a friend. I live in Ohio. Different climate, but so reminiscent of my grandparent's home in Appalachia. No snow here. We were promised snow last night, but it did not happen. I am rebuilding and expanding my garden after several years of neglect. My mother passed, and I lost heart. Now, I feel that I am being pushed by my ancestors to go back to my roots. I am happy. I can not have livestock except chickens where I live. I am OK with that. I would love a small cow to take over the grass mowing. I have plenty of deer locally. I almost took out two 8 point bucks yesterday morning on my way to work. You and other channels are inspiring me to get back to the natural world and grow my food. Thank you.

Im up in the U.P. Michigan...we must have gotten your snow...about 3 in. Before that our ground was bare. Weather is so manipulated this year. We are usually super cold and lots of snow but not this year. We have had a couple down falls thats about it, then it just melt away!

I think the pantry challenge really makes you appreciate our ability to have fresh produce year round. I recommend a book called Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. It’s about a family that committed to eat only locally for 1 year. So interesting.

Yea, cows! Seeing your cows and the beautiful snow brings me so much joy. I am a quiet, shy kind of lady. I have been watching and yearning to pet the horses that live across the street from me for a while now. I finally got up enough gumption to ask the owner if I could pet and/or feed his horses some carrots. He was so friendly, I was upset with myself for taking so long to ask. The Stallion’s name is Titan and the mare’ s name is Zuzu. Both very sweet and gentle and I feed them carrots and apples every day!!! Farm animals make me so happy. Have a lovely evening.

I’ve thought this a few times that maybe the pantry challenge would be easier for you in the summer when you have the fresh veges and salads out of the garden as much as you like. I’ve thought this a few times watching different people doing it. Also with the sheep laying down and being unsteady. I follow sandy brock and she often have sheep that get pregtox. You prolly already know that. But thought I would just mention it

Hi Chelsea, thanks for sharing! I switched from a life long addiction to Best Foods mayo to my own. Long time ago I tried it but it was a food processor and a lots of clean up. But now I found a just over 2 cup mason jar with measurements that was tall and thin. I put 2 cups of avocado oil, 2 whole fresh eggs, 4 tsp acid (lemon juice, rice vinegar etc.) 2 tsp mustard, 1 tsp real salt. Use an immersion blender about 1 minute on the bottom then 1 -2 minutes up and down. Only thing to clean is the blender. Every week I add different herbs, onion powder, garlic powder, basil, msg, teensy bit of sugar etc. play and have fun! Taught the family, posted the recipe, so we never run out!

Beautiful winter scenery 😊 You could try growing a cucumber in your grow room. Just one would provide a crunchy freshness throughout late winter early spring. If only for sandwiches. With the long English variety, you could just slice a chunk off as needed. Leave the remaining bit on the plant. I find that homegrown cucumbers don’t last as long off the vines as store bought.

Happy 💘 Valentine's Day Chelsea! Your kitchen wood stove is Martha, our Home Comfort is Matilda. Our stove situation is like yours, a basement airtight woodstove and Matilda for cooking and back up. We also have a 1000 square ft, propane heater downstairs that is on stand by, but never used. We like the security of not needing electricity for heat. As we get older, we may install another propane heater upstairs for those inbetween days, when we don't want to lug wood. Your kitchen is looking nice with the new paint. I can't wear wool either or crochet with it. That sweater looks so warm and practical. Your family did great with the pantry challenge. I appreciate doing dry runs. I do not like being caught in uncomfortable situations regarding food supplies. Well done! ~ Diane

Ahhhhh 😊 Chelsea , like me- you once said you like to get up before anyone else- I’d make a coffee and go down to the basement and light my wood stove 😊😊. Drink my coffee to that very sound ♥️ If I had a Martha in my kitchen, she’d be in every morning ♥️ Just because the more rustic it is the better I like it. You should bake bread in that for a video. There were times I’d turn the loaves over in the pans to better brown the bottoms when it was baked but wanted the bottoms that crunchier done 👍. I’d love to see Martha in action. LOVED the day you did waffles on her 👍👍. LOVE the character of your beautiful house. Down here on the east coast, a house is where love grows and everyday living welcomes friends coming for coffee. A home is more like a magazine showcase place and it just looks ‘cold’ and unlived in 🤷♀️🤷♀️ Hard to explain but I’m sure you know exactly what I’m trying to say. ♥️

For winter sowing, you can try Starbucks if you have one nearby. Tim Hortons would have empty milk jugs too. Any place that serves coffee in bulk will have a lot of milk cartons. Those places usually don’t mind passing those along to be used in these types of projects. Good luck with winter sowing 👍

You have a very nice farm. I grew up on a sheep farm and they are absolutely my favorite farm animal. You might want to move the ewes to an enclosed structure before they lamb. The lambs come out wet and they will freeze very quickly if exposed to the elements. Where they are now is too open for birthing. It is a good idea to shear the ewes bellies and backsides before they lamb. The lambs need to snuggle up to the mothers bellies for warmth (as well as nursing , as you stated), and they can't do that if they're still covered in thick wool. Best wishes for a good lambing season!

I grow lettuce to larger leaf using the same grow lights you have. I usually start in fall and succession sow trays using 4 "rows" in each tray. I also brought in some of the cherry tomatoes and am eating tomatoes off vine. When its time for seed starting, the lettuce, kale and beets take a back seat. In fact, I may have a salad for lunch. You may not be able to grow enough for the family for a salad each day, but certainly in combination with sprouts and stuff, I would think it would work for a couple a week. Good video.

Hi from the UK! Love your channel, you are so fab at explaining. Worcestershire sauce, we shorten it to Worcester, pronounced Wooster sauce in the U.K. I’ve cooked from scratch for nearly 30 years due to dairy allergy and celiac, and other family members allergies when they visit. I’m still shocked by the rubbish in our foods in the U.K. and US too, so many thickeners, emulsifiers and nitrates! I’d love some land (in a town) and we hope to retire to France to achieve this in the next 18mths. Land is expensive in the UK sadly.
