I never enjoyed cooking, it was such a chore. But you have a family, you have to feed them. Lol That being said I worked 60-70 hours per week and maintained my home and cared for my disabled husband. As my sons grew into young men and they ate anything that got in their way. They would request dishes or compliment me on the meal. I always cooked large batches of whatever I was preparing and nothing went to waste. Now my sons and their daddy all have passed away and I am alone. I miss having someone to cook, bake for. Amazing I thought I detested cooking/baking. Now every now and then I have some children I can cook for and it makes my heart smile. Their momma detests cooking and makes a lot of processed foods. They appreciate the meals I prepare for them. Its a win win situation. If I cook for myself I don't normally for just me. I can make do with a slice of bread and cheese. Thank you for sharing a piece of your life and world, I find comfort in your vlogs.

You can add a thick glass top to it so you can see through but wash it easily. At this size it will not move or fall off. Recycled glass from sliding patio doors are great. The glass company can cut to any size you need. Plus it’s safety glass.

I recently found your channel, much to my delight! Watching you in the kitchen, up and down the stairs, outside to go shopping, give the weather update and then back into your cozy and welcoming kitchen to show, share and tackle your nemesis of cooking makes your audience feel like we are right with you. Cup of tea or your famous cocoa in hand. Your camera presence is everyday mom and totally believable. The new videos are a welcoming sight when you post, but being that I am new, I have a treasure trove of your past videos to languish through. And just let me know if you have any Midwestern recipes you have ever heard about and would like to try. I am sure I have it buried in my ridiculous collection of church and Amish cook books somewhere!!!😊

Was going to say same. The wood strap side up. Keeping the chains on show under the clear medium. The gap between the Perspex/safety glass would be deep enough to keep latest magazines, store items when clearing table for games, keep a deck of cards or even showcase Chelsea’s new book! 😃 Keep the gate as original as possible.

I grew up on a fruit farm in Rutland (now part of Kelowna - so I'm pretty sure you will know where this is) and my mom canned EVERYTHING. She was also a wonderful baker (didn't like cooking as much as baking) and we grew up with home-made bread, buns and fantastic cinnamon buns. Watching you make and eat this bread just took me back to the 1950's. Oh the smell!!!! And borscht too - a real staple in our house. I had some in the freezer and just took it out for supper after watching your video - lol. My sister lived in Prince George so am familiar with your part of BC. Love watching your videos.

I just discovered you this summer (and we spend time together everyday, just so you know!) so I'm watching some of your older videos. I'm guessing the reason you didn't enjoy cooking until you started making videos is because it was tedious, but making the videos made you aware and proud of how skilled you are and how much beautiful food you produce in your kitchen for your family. ❤

I was blessed to help a Ukrainian family learn English many years ago. We met every Friday night & they prepared a meal for us all. Their Borscht was my absolute favorite soup of all time. They did not put beets in, but included everything else you did-with the sour cream & dill. So enjoying all the videos you have been sharing with us. Blessings to you!

Hi. I’m binging on your channel where I just found you. Great videos too 🥰. The ‘shopping basket’ you use for bringing stuff up stairs- hang it on the basement door and just grab it on your way down to shop 👍 It’ll save you steps in your day. TRUST me, come being time the steps you save is a blessing. 😊 Love your wood cook stove ♥️♥️ I had just the small wood stove for main heat source, I baked foil wrapped potatoes in the fire and actually could bake cookies on top, as well as whole meals that didn’t need an oven. My house burned in the middle of the night last March 😪 - been there 39 years 💔 Electrical fire! 😡 No matter HOW careful one can be - wood stove was out before I went to bed, and wasn’t lit at all days I had to go in town only once I got back. If I wasn’t there or awake to tend it- it didn’t get done. I questioned fire chief as to WHAT could’ve caused electrical TO fire - he said more often than not, it’s a squirrel or mouse that chewed into wiring 😳😡. I spent the summer and fall up on the homestead in a little camper to do my gardens and yard work , companies estimated tear down of the shell $15000 😳 that’s robbery ! So, I lugged bags n boxes out for garbage pick up, picked up glass WHOA the amount of glass was unreal… and if winter doesn’t cave it in- I’ll just keep picking away at it 👍 even if I had $15000 I’d NOT give it for tearing down what remained of my life.

You might have to chisel some wood out from under the straps so they sit down into the spot where they are! It will take some doing because you will have to chisel the whole length of the strap, but it will be worth it!!! Just deep enough so the strap will sit down in !

I am so glad you showed us that borscht recipe. One of my favorites but have never tried making it. Grew up with It looks amazing. I was so hoping you were going to throw a gob of sour cream on it lol :) We do that in lots of soups because my Nany taught me that with borscht. Have used dill, but my Nany loved finally chopped dill pickles on the sour cream. So that is one of my favorites and my 23 year old daughter to this day needs her sour cream and pickles. In any soup. Love the weenie roast. And yes nothing like a good hot dog any day that is my favorite treat. I have never tried one with chips love it! That table is going to be so beautiful. I think the table would look good with the raised piece unless you do several games at a time? One board would work but if more maybe inlay it? Well the bread looks once again so yum but oh my gosh the hard work and that is not easy I do not think I could even do it! But it looks like heaven. I love you love the recipe. I am so sorry, I do not mean to leave such long winded comments, but it is so hard not to because I am enjoying these videos so much! I will try to keep them shorter 😊. hugs xo

I came across your channel for the first time yesterday so just a few statements. For someone who doesn't like to cook you sure are a pro 🤣. Secondly, I absolutely love all the land along with your little cabin. Lately I have been harping on moving out of our big city and into a homestead. Being raised in the country my heart wants to return to the old ways. Thirdly, what is your family's source of income? Lastly, is the wood heater your source of heat?? I grew up on a farm; our main source of heat was the wood heater/stove which we often cooked soups on. We didn't get HVAC until I was 15-16. It always kept the majority of the house warm but we closed most of the room doors because the heat wouldn't reach that far. Anyways I enjoy your videos and your kind spirit!!!

I love the videos you are making! I look forward to seeing you pop up in my notifications. Your borscht is an amazing nutrition bomb! For your table, I think for safety purposes I would remove them. The holes where the bolts were and the wood beneath the straps will leave plenty of character to the wood top but make a smoother surface for little hands and arms.

We make it every year as soon as the snow flies and it's our tradition to celebrate winter and the slowing down season! We haven't had it yet this year but I have all the ingredients ready and I'm just waiting.. By the way, I've been following for a while but I never comment, except I wanted to say I really am enjoying that you are posting SO much more. I love borscht! I’ve made it for years, but this summer I’ve been volunteering with Ukrainian refugees and made some good friends. They taught me their way of making it, and it was so good! Not too different from what you do, just some nuances. We did a vegetarian version using homemade vegetable stock and added a quart of home canned beans at the end to make it heartier. If you’ve never had borscht with beans, I highly recommend it! Maybe try it with a small batch, though. 😂

Back in the mid 70’s, I was in Hong Kong…. (I was 12) my mom and I found a small Russian restaurant that served the MOST amazing borscht ….we went back every day for a week for bowl…😂. I have never tasted anything that came close to it since😞. (I also lived in Taiwan where the food was AMAZING…..and, of course, since moving to the U.S., I have never tasted Chinese food that came anywhere close to it😞)

My mother made borscht all the time, I love it I have heard of that Earl Grey Cream tea, but haven't tried it. I'm a honey and milk tea drinker too.

I saw the Old Dutch Potato chips and drooled!!! I lived in South Dakota growing up and we used to get them. I left South Dakota at 22. I have had the 2 times since then. I love them but we can't get them in North Carolina. Yummmm. I want some!!

You can always buy a panel of glass to put on your table so you can keep the metal straps. It would protect the wood over the long term, as well.
