This worked SO well for us, it was like a little light bulb in her brain went off. We treat bombed her one time and after that our 3-3.5 month old puppy would ring her bells at the back door every time she needed to pee or poop. It was a night and day difference. Now she's 5 months old, has only had 1 accident inside since. This video made such a big difference for us, thank you Joel!

Been using this method with a couple of tweaks for a month, it’s working great so far. Not sure why at first I never thought of putting him in the crate to prevent accidents but it literally was a game changer. Plus he is getting used to the crate which is even great for crate training. Also utilizing negative reinforcement for when your dog goes off the pad can be really good to teach them to not go off the pad, but only use negative reinforcement when you are sure that the dog knows he is supposed to be going on the pad but he just doesn’t want to. Or else it could lead the dog to thinking you just want to punish them for going potty in front of you.

I had a litter of 10 puppies 3 years ago. I never had to potty train them, at around two months one of the puppies started leading all of them outside to pee/poop. It was amazing to watch. Within days none of them did their business in the house anymore. It was easy for them though as I kept the door open all the time so they could go outside whenever they wanted.

I just adopted an adult toy poodle. He was always kept on a short leash in his previous home, and only went as far as the sidewalk once in the morning and once late at night. I will try my best to potty train him, and get him out to exercise as he needs. The poor thing deserves to live like a normal dog.

How long do you need to give them treats?
@Adianodelih Жыл бұрын
Hi, a simple question. I've found the way to make my dog do his needs outside, however, during the night it's normal that he releases his needs. Too many hours and it's fair. However, i've been suggested to not let my dog assisting at operation (removing and cleaning his needs). Is that AN absurd or a correct suggestion? What do you think? Thank you in advance.

My dog was a rescue dog from South Korea and lived in a crate for 10 years. He is not getting the potty training. What else can I do other then the crate?
@CaduceusErin2 ай бұрын
The idea with the crate is that they won't potty where they sleep; because he had no choice, that won't work for him. If it were me, I'd have him on a schedule, and take him out at regular times. And jackpot the treats when he goes outside.

I need advice for my 2moth old Husky, internet is all over the place. Should he always have access to the drinking water (taking him out to potty every time he drinks) or only specific times a day? Is it better to feed him prior to going out or after (then going again for potty)? Thank you

I have a 17 months old chihuahua and I let him pee on the balcony (on a turf). A trainer had told me that I should just let him go whenever he pleases so I haven't really "potty trained" him. He sits at the door when he needs to do, but he also sits to go play on the fake grass (not the turf). How can I "potty train" him at that age since the parameters are different than for a puppy? ps: thank you for all your videos, I just discovered your channel, I already subscribed and have been binge watching your videos!

I’m struggling with mine a bit. Just got him, and he is tough to potty train. I haven’t crated him, I’m not a fan of doing that. However it may be necessary. I swear he pees a lot more than 5 a day, it’s more along the lines of 10. He always pees every time he is taken out, but will often pee indoors too before that. I’m actually using positive every time he goes in the right place, but every time he tries to pee inside I will actually give him a negative. I’m extremely frustrated with this, never had this issue before with another. I am about ready to start taking him out every hour on the dot, instead of every two. I’ve about had it with him, at my wits end trying to make sure he’s potty trained. In the past I’ve had it happen almost overnight

Couldn't this lead to phantom potty moments? They ask to go out because they know they get treats?
@leoniebelcher168011 ай бұрын
Yep, my wee girl figured that one out. Now she rings the bell and hits the go potty button if I am preparing food or doing housework. Even if she was JUST OUT and went potty. She wants attention, or to play in the potty yard. So no snacks out in the potty yard now. Play is ok for a couple minutes but I need to also make my household function.

Hello, the problem with my dog is that he has learnt to pee in the washroom since he pees a lot and we live in an apartment. However, he poops wherever he feels like in the house and never tries to relieve himself (neither pee or potty) whenever we take him outside. As soon as we take him back home, he immediately relieves himself as if he was holding it in. We have been trying different things since a month but nothing is working. My dog is 6 months old. I hope if you read this you can help suggest something to do.

My dog is a yellow lab. its eight months later and my dog seems to have actually grown out of this problem. He is pooping more and more outside...but in my case, I feed him his first meal of the day ( he gets two kibble meals a day ) and then within five minutes I take him out in the backyard and run him with the frisbee....within ten min or less of his running around, he is pooping, outside. And I give him a treat right after, so Joel is correct, the treats perpetuate the behavior. He is 2 years old now and has been doing this like clockwork, eating, then outside to run and poops without encouragement, for the past couple months. So maybe your dog will outgrow the problem, He started outgrowing it at about 21 months. (I understand labs are still puppies, actually until they are three ) But pairing the dinner with going outside n the fenced in yard, right after, then make them chase and run a little , seems to make it happen. And then give them a good treat. I think it might be something they outgrow.

My dog is 11 years old. I take her out first thing in the morning. 15-20 minute walk. Totally no pee left. Then I clean houses. Come home after three hours and she’s peed on the carpet and sometimes peed on my son’s bed. What to do. Crate her, haven’t done that in years.
