Except for potty training, jumping and nipping are the two main issues with a puppy. Learn how to effectively train your new puppy not to jump and nip.

I use a very sharp "uhuh" and almost always the puppy will stop jumping. I immediately praise. If the puppy jumps again, I repeat; then I wait for the puppy to keep their 4 on the floor longer and longer and praise as I get a longer time of not jumping. If the puppy sits for a greeting I always praise. I do not turn my back when the puppy jumps, but I don't give any attention either, unless the puppy has 4 on the floor. This similar method has worked well for me.

(I try to head them off ahead of time, but sometimes have to resort to "OFF" and a pull if I'm too late or the person laughs and wants to play and grab, , when my dog is off leash....not the ideal situation) I try to keep away from folks like that, BUT it has happened

I’m no dog trainer but turning is not enough, you might have really ignore the dog for a minute for the punishment to sink in. Also, my dog was very hyper when meeting (jumped around and barked), I now ignore her when I meet her and come to her after a minute so that she doesn’t hype herself up when she hears me coming. It’s still a work in progress with strangers but she’s now usually calm with me and my family. It only took a week to get the new behavior so that’s kinda fast if you ask me

I'm not a professional dog trainer, but am on the downhill slide ( it seems), with an extremely tough biting pup. I don't know how old your child is. Mine are older, 10 and 11.They get bitten pretty often (puppy bites but they hurt). They tether the pup if they're outside or I have them just remove themselves from his presence. If you're child is really little just keep them totally apart until things get better...and they WILL. My pup bites my back too, like a Tasmanian devil from every angle. When he's that out of control I have to walk away, or if I'm stuck with him at the park I loop leash around anything I can find til he callllllms down and I can give him the " easy on your side command" I taught him. He'll flop down, biting the air til he's calm enough to take a pine cone or a stick or a chewie I keep in backpack. I'm new to this trainers videos, but watched one where he suggests high values chewies as often as needed to satiate your dog. Pups need tons of sleep and exercise but I've found that's only part of the battle. Pups still bite after tons of sleep and exercise, lol. Just ride this out the best you can and remove access to your child if needed! Because it's inevitable he will keep biting as the child can't be expected to keep a pup with biting issues that strong, at bay.

Everyday and morning i have an issue with my 7-8 month old dog. He always jumps up at me and nips. Usually goes for my hands ALL the time, non stop until he gets tired. Recently he’s been nipping at my legs constantly. I have new scratches all over daily, he’s mostly only like this with me but i don’t understand why. I try to do things with him to show him im more “dominant” but it seems like thats not getting through to him. I could punch him as hard as i can (I dont do that) and he would still come back at me like nothing happened
@aweedful2 жыл бұрын
same is happening with my 5 month boxer. I made sure he is healthy and exercised. I also think it is dominance stance. I try to turn my back but he keeps jumping and bitting. If i try to stop him by holding him down it just gets exponentially worse. He only does this when i take him for walks and i am so puzzled.
@pjburges2 жыл бұрын
Try feeding him every meal from your hand. Make him lick the kibble out. Make sure there is no other way he can eat. This will help reprogram his mind to lick and not bite hands for a reward. On the negative side dont punch. Dogs dont do that youll just break his trust. But consider grabbing him by the neck and putting him on his back, pin him and dominate him with force, choke his breath out, when he begins to cry hold for 2 or 3 seconds then release and stand your ground above him, dont speak or say anything, just stare him down. He should lay flat on his belly or roll to his side if this is done correctly. This is the most extreme negative approach you would ever take. More than likely its your energy that is allowing him to do it. Are you pulling your hands away? Are tensing up? Nervous? Dogs pick all that up. Change your energy, be firm and consistent dont yell just be stern, and he will probably stop GL. Channel your inner cesar milan!

Our young puppy would turn into a land shark after having a good game of fetch or fetch and tug. Suddenly she would lose interest in the game and start biting feet and pant legs.. If I could get hold of her, I would pick her up and grab hold of her collar and tell her sternly to settle. In a minute or so she would kind of settle down and forget about the feet. I also found that if I could gauge when she had enough play and might start that, I would end the play and bring her back inside. I think it was a result of getting tired and wound up. After a few weeks of stopping play before it happened, she no longer does it. She is now 3 1/2 months old. Good luck.
