Thank you for the video. My husband passed away years ago and I kept all of his clothes. I plan to make quilts for my kids and you have made it look so simple and I've gotten some great ideas! Again, thank you so much! And by the way, for those of you who haven't used the quilting scissors to make the fray, they are life savers.

I want to use a 10" pack of flannel. Can I just split them into 5" pieces and cut the denim smaller or do prefer the longer strips of denim?
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 4 ай бұрын
Cutting the 10" squares smaller with absolutely work! The only reason I don't use 5" squares is it doubles the sewing and clipping time which makes a big difference on large quilts. Take a look at this video linked below and you'll see the difference. Then you decide which you prefer. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnWrhn9sebSKa68 Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

I did Jean quilt for my daughters 30th birthday and I put Jean pockets on and put candy, gum, 1.00 etc in pockets and mailed from NC to Arz. She said she looked in all the pockets and was thrilled to find the treats.

You're right, Faith. It's hanging in the background but there's no image of the entire quilt. Videos can't be edited to add anything, so I can't do that. I'm doing a series of rag quilts in Jan which would be a great opportunity to show it off. Thanks for your comment! 😊 Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

I have never made a rag quilt and you covered so many things I needed to know, like needle size. Thank you for the great information. Question: I intend to make mine with the denim side down. It's meant to be a picnic or outdoor tummy time quilt for my new granddaughter. I intend to use pockets as something for her to touch and play with (after reinforcing the buttons). Is there anything different I need to know when using the denim as the back, not the front?

Not at all, it'll work well either way, Kathy. My kids use theirs as a picnic blanket and they love it. You're granddaughter will love having it! It's great to have you following along! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Can this be done without a walking foot? I'm having an AWFUL time finding one for my machine, for some reason. I really, really want to try making one of these, but I might have to wait until I can find a walking foot.
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise Жыл бұрын
I made lots of denim quilts years ago before I had a walking foot. The challenge you'll face without using a walking foot is keeping your fabrics even when you're sewing your seams. What happens is that top fabric may be pulled under the needle slower than the bottom fabric is moving. This causes you to have uneven edges at the end of a seam. Short distances won't be a big problem, so make your strips first. When you begin sewing your strips together, pin them and keep the fabrics together as best you can. Another idea is to start your seam in the middle and sew to one edge. Then turn it around and sew from the middle again to the opposite side. This will at least keep your rows centered and may eliminate most of the problem. Give it a try on a couple small pieces and see how it goes. Just take it slow and then trim off any excess as needed. You should be able to do it and get very good results! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

I made a denim quilt for my nephew. It was all the back pockets and I turned them all direction. Oh my sister would shack, turn an shack, turn and shack again. Cookies, toy and little hot wheels would come out. Than in washer more toys would fall out. She finally made him hang it on wall. Lol

Good questions, Betty. If you're asking about the rag quilt snippers, those are from Amazon at amzn.to/3EZqMCz These have been the best clippers to use for rag quilts. The scissors I use are Ginger's which you can also get on Amazon at amzn.to/3AUM4R1 Sometimes I can get scissors at large fabric stores and some quilt shops but the selection may be limited. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Thanks for sharing that, Patricia! Your grandson will love it! I'm so glad you took on the project AND finished it. That's no small task!! My son still uses his after nearly twenty years. It's now his family's favorite picnic blanket which makes me so happy. We sometimes forget the impact a simple quilt can make on someone's life. Quilter's have a special blessing to bring happiness to others. Okay, maybe too mushy but I love quilting and enjoy seeing the smiles when I gift a quilt. Keep on quilting, Patricia! Lea Louise

I like the talking videos unless it's not English or the volume is too low for my hearing problems or background music is too loud. I hate it when there's only annoying music, but luckily we have the handy mute button. If I get too impatient, I can speed up the video by fast forwarding, or stop the video. Talk away Lea Louise! I always learn something new or entertaining while eating or drinking or writing. It's a pleasure to listen to you. I share your love of beautiful fabrics and good ideas. You talk a bit longer because you are enthusiastic about your quilting. It's a balancing act to weigh the amount of talking to satisfy the majority of your listeners. Not everyone will be happy, no matter what you do! I worked part time at a quilt store, measuring and cutting fabric. One time, as I was leaving the store after a shopping trip, another customer grumbled to me that she was very displeased with one of the employees because she didn't smile at her. Duh! Maybe her back was aching and her feet were killing her from standing all day! KZbin is such a wealth of information--some bad, some ugly, some good and helpful. It's like having a giant library on demand. If I have a plumbing problem or broken appliance or gadget that needs repairing, I go to KZbin first. Find the best prices. Get legal and health advice. The resource list is long. Anyone can give the advice, so you have to decide to heed it or recognize you're listening to a fool. I don't have to worry about my below average spelling when posting. Spell check comes to the rescue, except when even spell check can't decipher what word I butchered. Another plus of KZbin is the fact that I don't have to do the work of reading a lot of text--like this long epistle. If I make a mistake or write something bad, I get to either delete or edit it. Nice.
