Quick and Easy: SUNSUN HW-3000 4 month CLEANING [Canister Filter]

In this video I go over how to maintain a SunSun HW-3000 including how to ensure you don't get
leaks from a old hard o-ring.
This filter was setup brand new in Sept 2022 replacing a 5 year old SunSun 704b.
(The old 704b still ran beautifully and is currently in storage as a backup)

Hi - great videos on these sunsun hw-3000's i am wondering if you can shed any light on interpretation of the uv lamp icon in relation to being able to tell if the uv lamp is working or not without having to do a visual check with the filter canister open. The whole icon was blinking when first turned on, but now the txt inside the icon is blinking instead & the lamp time on counter is going up. Thank you

Awesome video! How did you remove the input and output outlet? I’m trying to remove mine to clean out the gunk because my filter just isn’t sucking in any water but I’m having issues removing it and I even opened both valves. Any tips?

You have to unlock the big one in the middle and then shut off the two taps on the left are right and then pull it out. you might have to wiggle it a bit but it does come out.

Just set this filter up in my 75 gallon Tank for my Red Ear Slider Turtle. My 2nd SunSun. Love the easy start! 1 question, any idea how high i should have my fan set? Currently running on 4. Thanks for your videos!

mine is still catching bubbles from the canister but i cleaned and sealed it the best i could. any suggestions on how to fix this?

Shouldn’t polishing pad be in the bottom tray? Or all the muck is going to get concentrated on the bio media

There is a course, medium and fine sponge in the bottom. I put the white at the top as it tends to make it less noisy as it keeps rattles and vibrations down.

Floss goes on top of the bottom tray otherwise clogs your media

No I have a fine foam at the bottom. The floss at top is a final polish. More than one way to do things 😁

Would it be worth trying closing one valve for 5 to 10 seconds then the other then turn off the power.I also have an Aquael ultramax 2000, this how you would operate it when cleaning the prefilter to insure there is no excess water in the head chamber, just a thought because off the two independent flow locks,same as the Aquael !!!

hi gr8 video I have the 704b its a real work horse a good filter .its hard to tell from your video ,but which would you say is the quieter filter,704 or 3000. I am thinking of adding a second filter with a flow control feature like the 3000 .cheers,

I would say about the same for noise level, I can't hear them in the cabinet.

What is the process to turn it off? Do you shut both valves before unplugging?

Unplug it first then close each valve and then open the lock lever in the middle.

You can remove the bulb I think. But not entirely sure.

@BassMan Strikes Kayak Fishing guess I need too proof read lol,but I am talking about the spray bar or duck bill returns. It appeared to be a loc line joint. My plans if it is loc line, is to use random flow generators for my reef vs spray bar and duck bill

The plumbing is not this stuff www.loc-line.com/ The output bills have a similar rotation type connection but I doubt it's compatible. You could try once you get the canister and let us know 👍😎

Cool, one thing I noticed is the total hours resets when you unplug it, so to keep track you would have to write it down before you unplug it. I only have mine on 4 hours per day, so I will have to replace it after like a year and a half.

The main issue with this filter is the priming either it works or it doesn’t work.

What I do is make sure it's empty, close both valves, then fill one tube, replace cap and open both valves. Primes every time and you only have to do it that way on initial setup. For cleaning it stays primed and you just open valves and go.
