I checked the active ingredient in Oven Off and compared it to Red Devil's wood stove glass cleaner (which also works very well). Surprise, surprise, it's the same ingredient; sodium hydroxide. The difference being that Oven Off uses butane to propel the sodium hydroxide from an aerosol can where as the Red Devil is sprayed on from a simple spray bottle. 6-to-1, half dozen to another. Both work well.

Well that worked Good! A lot of times I use oven cleaner to clean engines. (Cheaper then most Engine cleaners) One problem hard on the paint and aluminum. It will remove rust a little bit too! And you definitely don’t wanna breathe it in or get it on your skin!

I stopped by to try to find a different way to clean my wood stove and pellet stove glass. My favorite product is out of stock until after cv-19 dies down I'm hoping. I thought about the oven cleaner but I'm looking for something that doesn't have the aerosol spray. My product used to have that what is it it is white cloth and tire cleaner. And it's a buck or I should say it wasn't booked at the dollar store slightly more at Family Dollar. Comes in a pump bottle, spray it on wipe it off. I only had one complaint. The tube on the pump spray didn't go all the way down to the bottom of the bottle it was about an inch and three quarters above the bottom of the bottle so you always had to open the bottle and pour it into your newer bottle. LOL but for a dollar you couldn't go wrong. I typically let the glass on my stove totally cool off. I do it about every three days. But now I have a stove to clean and I just picked up some of the oven cleaner so I'll give it a try since I can't find my usual product. Thank you for the tip.

The way i clean my woodstove window is, i make a big fire in stove and the high heat cleans the glass. Burn it off.. Have a good one everyone and take care.
@mic9823 жыл бұрын
Well, it works pretty well...but. Our stove will heat us out of the house if we try to burn the glass clean. We cannot let our stove get hot enough, long enough, to do the job. But yes, it is one way to deal with the creosote buildup IF you can stand that much heat that long.
@crbourret5 жыл бұрын
That's a great tip! I'm going to try that on the glass doors to our fireplace. I can never get them clean.

We have been using oven cleaner for 30 years. Be careful not to get it on the black part of stove. Also found if you replace your door gasket it helps a lot. If it’s sucking air it gets way more buildup it seems.

Like cleans like. Wood ash is high in potassium. Add water and you get potassium hydroxide (lye), which is the main ingredient in oven cleaner. The pH is very high and will burn skin and lungs.

AND another way is: Dampen crumpled up newspaper, dip it in wood ashes, scrub the glass. Polish with dry crumpled up newspaper. Freeeee ! :)
@sodbuster518able5 жыл бұрын
Rhonda another trick i use is with glass cleaner on my pellet stove glass door like yours i dip the paper towel once damp from wiping the glass cleaner. I dip it in the fly ash residue and it buffs the ash off of the glass then a final clean with more glass cleaner.

Hallo Was ist besser für den Hof? Ein Hoftrac ( Schäffer, Weidemann) oder ein Bobcat? In Deutschland haben fast alle einen Hoftrac! what is better for the farm? A Hoftrac (Schäffer etc.) or a Bobcat? In Germany most people have a Hoftrac!
