Christmas & Thanksgiving cacti clippings should have at least 3 sections on them for the best growth.
Allow the clippings to heal over for a day or two prior to planting, or insert them directly into dry soil with good draining capabilities, such as a sand or perlite mix.
If your clippings have healed over for a couple of days, add a bit of water to the soil and keep it moist, but not soggy. Roots should begin to appear within a few weeks.
These type of cacti enjoy bright, indirect sunlight and environments with higher humidity. If you live in a dry climate like I do, you can spritz your cactus with water daily.

Oh please, the clippings are just fine. Use all of them and in no time they'll take root! 💚Nice of the mother-in-law to share her plant; you sounded ungrateful.

Even one segment will propagate just fine. I have one little segment that fell off of my friends little Easter Cactus, and it's rooted and now growing a new little segment of its own, within a couple of months.

Ungrateful? Damn, nobody should ever be neutral or discuss the nuances of something having a higher chance in another state around you.

I just found your video and i just made a video yesterday on the exact same way to plant thanksgiving cactus! The only difference was i used two leaf and not three. Hopefully i still have good results and if it Doesn't turn out, I will be sure to do it your way! Thanks for the video.😊

How did it turn out? A piece of my friend's Easter Cactus fell off, so she gave it to me to attempt to save it. It is now rooted and has a new segment growing.

@thomaslawrenceallplantsare7441 that is amazing! My friend gave me 2 of the 3 little segments that fell off of hers and the one she kept rooted and is growing now, like 1 of the 2 she gave me. So it was a 75% success rate.

My friend had one section fall off of her Easter Cactus and gave it to me. It's propagated and it's now growing a new section.

I'm trying to propagate these now, did you have an update how these turned out? I've had such rotten luck with propagating these, but I was doing it all wrong. I must have been drowning these poor things

Interessant, muss ich auch mal probieren. Ich habe nämlich einen gelb blühenden, den würde ich gerne vermehren. 👍

It propagates with one section. It just takes a little longer.

Hey fellow Coloradoan! Can these be kept outside year round? I’m amazed at the succulents that survive and come back in spring. Things we’d swear probably wouldn’t make it. This might not be one of them.?

I think they’ll die and not come back if you left them outside in Colorado over winter. They well inside in low light, with very little water during the winter
