I rescued my “Christmas” cactus from the roommate that left for the Peace Core back in 1973. I call her “Stella” she is the most beautiful variant with 5 inch blooms… snowy white centers with each petal sparkle like imbedded glitter. Each blossom becoming bright pink as the color moves out words the end of the petal then it has an fine line….almost crimson edge. I’ve never seen another one quite like her. I’ve never lived a moment without Stella since I found her. Stella is now much to large to move & I haven’t repotted her in a decade… she explodes with incredible display 2 times a year… I even have friends & neighbors that come to see her in bloom. I’ve enjoyed a lifetime with her.

Thank you so much for this educational resource! I love Christmas Cactus and this is the first one I’ve ever kept alive AND had flower! I now am rooting two segments and want to give all the plants everything they need. I am a skilled outdoor gardener but haven’t gotten skilled with indoor plants for some reason lol I really appreciate your advice ❤

Interesting, mine has bloomed like mad for the first time since i bought it 7 years ago. It's a random cactus, blooms when it feels like it. But it's very sad. Ill give it some love.

Hello, I’ve just found you and subscribed because you talk a lot sense and clearly love your plants🥰 Yesterday I bought the gorgeous peachy pink Thanxgiving cactus you have in the centre of your window sill, £4 at Morrisons! n I’m besotted!! I took a small box and bubble wrap for protection from cold, overnighted on a cool windowsill and it hasn’t dropped a single bud! and two flowers are opening! I can’t stop looking at her! God bless you 🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️. ✌️🇮🇱🤍✝️✌️

I have my late dad's Christmas cactus at my house, but it's really bad. I only have one leaf left that's not dead. I hope I'll be able to root that one and repot it. My dad bought it in the late 80s, and now these videos are giving me some hope to revive it. Thank you!

I had a Christmas cactus for the last 15 yrs. and it started shriveling and dying. I desperately started propagating from the few remaining shriveled leaves and all of them failed and rotted except one which actually rooted and is now sprouting a couple of small red leaf buds. I’m hoping to bring back my plant from this humble re-start! Good luck 🍀

Don't for get non growing season,water1-2 a month. Soil check if its rooting plant,needs more organic draining type soil like cactus palm soil mix or try to use Happy frog soil mix,it's good drainage,has natural ingredients like soul mix and drainage.

Hi, I hope this isn't too late, but my Christmas cactus had a really rough couple of winters after a move, and has gotten down to two smaller and very weak plants. I was wondering if I should semi dry the roots after taking it out so I can separate them or if that's a no-no. I think they're competing for nutrients but I've had it for ~6 years with no problems. Thanks so much!

Should I let the limbs grow long? We have 3 really old cacti (over 40 YO). They have grown long limbs and I'm afraid to trim them back. I miss the bushy plant, just don't want to hurt the beautiful old ladies
@jessicab4991 Жыл бұрын
It should be just fine. And if you remove the pads carefully and let them dry out a little you can report those too and have more! Some people have better luck water propagating and some with soil but it won't hurt the old girls to give them a little plucking here and there. Especially if you see any roots coming out of any of the pads that are hanging those have a better chance. They also say leaving at least three pads on one propagation is best but others still have success with just one.

Huh this is probably why mine are dropping, I've not fertilised them since before winter. Well time to fertilise them and see if that fixes the problem

Hi, i just found your video. I went to open my curtains this morning and discovered 3 large branches of my Christmas cactus fell off. They are about 12 inches long. I was so shocked! I've had this cactus for 5 years. It's in the middle of blooming for Christmas right now, and I water once a week. I have not added fertilizer lately, so I guess that's definitely one of my problems. It's been a happy plant. So I'm shocked. Can I grow more of this plant with the arms that have broken off? I don't want to lose this plant, as it was a gift from a dear friend. I've seen rooting in water and also directly in soil. Which do you recomend please?
@sierraspence19654 жыл бұрын
Raechelle Bennett I personally don’t use fertilizer and mine grows fine. If the segments aren’t yellow and still green they are probably healthy enough to grow a new plant out of. I recommend growing them in dirt rather than water because they can get water logged. If you want you can buy root stimulator. For this just wet the very bottom of the tip in the powder and then put it in the dirt. I find this really promotes growth is you’re very worried. I find it also very common that leaves will drop around blooming time so that may be the cause. Maybe also check if the leaves are purple. If the leaves are purple it may be getting to much sunlight. Hope this helps.

@@sierraspence1965 All your information and suggestions are very helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. Yes, the sections that dropped off have some reddish purple segments so too much sunlight. Now I can make changes. I'm rooting quite a few segments so I'll have some great starters as well. Thank you again and have a Merry Christmas! 🎄🙇♀️🌱🍃🌺

Hi Rachael, my loving cat got bored one day when she was left alone. I came home to many pieces of my Christmas cacti’s all over the kitchen and living room floors. She is my husbands little darling so I’m sure it was all an accident. I cut off tops of used water bottles (clear) leaving just enough to support the pieces. I then rolled up pieces of tin foil, placed the cactus pieces around the outer edge of the bottle cups and dropped the tin foil into the center to hold the pieces in an upright position. I then added just enough water to cover the very bottom of each piece (not even 1/4 inch). I set them in my kitchen window (north facing - doesn’t get too much sun, also in bathroom window facing west). I had almost 30 pieces to save. Every couple of days I would check to add water as it would also evaporate. Every piece rooted. I then planted them in miscellaneous coffee cups I had managed to collect over the years and put them back in the same window. They have turned out happy and healthy. I am now waiting for them to bloom so I will know which color they are. I’m sure I have different colors mixed since my cat didn’t bother to keep the pieces separated by color while enjoying her alone time. I have several family members and friends asking for them, so they will all end up being great gifts.

Don't fear,your pieces can be saved!, Rinse off roots from the pieces that fell off. Sprinkle cinnamon powder on the roots,put on small pot of fresh dirt. Also,don't water for a couple weeks. Now the main plant,you are getting root rot from to many waterings. Back off with water,till you plant dries out the soil ,then water it but don't drown it.water lightly. If your plant continues to loose branches,report in new soil. Rinse the root bulb and cover with cinnamon,this helps dry and prevent infection.after reporting,do not water for 2 weeks. Don't put in direct sun. Good luck!💚👍

If you know you've overwhatered and they are droopy, take it out of the pot and check the roots. If the roots have rotten, you will need to propagate by selecting the next healthy section of the plant for it

My Easter cactus is dying! Has fungus gnats and scale! My grandma gave it to me, I wish you could save it for me. Super wilted and dropping leaves. I feel so horrible about it. My grandma passed away and she gave it to me when she was alive!! I took a very segments from it, but they could still have scale? I’ve been using rubbing alcohol every few days, and try to pick off the scale. I don’t know what else I can do, without hurting the cactus more. I bought neem oil but scared it will hurt it more, since the roots are damaged I think from the gnats.

You said water?? You are covering your plants in water?! Is that correct?? For how long the plant needs to be under the water? I sow the a mouth of minerals you are giving them, but in how much water?? Do you give that spoon of food to only those two plants?? Could you please be specific? I am trying to learn how to take of plants the correct way, but your instructions are not in detail.
