Just a simple video showing myself and some friends staying the night out on 'The Hook'
The 'product' I mention is called a 'Mooring Bar'. By chance, while I was making this video a friend introduced me to the inventor. I was told he was very close to producing and marketing an innovative tool for boaters. His invention allows small boats to tie up together without fear of bumping into one another, even if waked by another boat or in rough seas. It could also attach a boat temporarily to a dock cleat. I have witnessed a fender blow up when smashed between my boat and my friend Matt's boat, so I was very intrigued. The actual product isn't for sale yet, though. So, my part as a guy that might showcase an existing item was not really viable. And to invest a large sum of money to get molds made and parts ready for retail isn't a reality for me. Even though if this idea took off, it could be very lucrative, I have already set my sights on creating a different business. This path of making a 'Mooring Bar' a thing you can find in stores is meant for someone else. And like I said in this video, I think the inventor is a nice dude. So, I offered to show his idea in hopes that there might be someone out there willing to help him raise the nearly 200k he would need to get this product in stores.
Having high hopes of my own to start a kayak rental/destination here in Tampa, I understand how scary it is to have such dreams and truly wish this guy well and mentioned this for nothing. It's not making me a dime to add this to my video, but it feels right to use the reach on social media I have to possibly help this guy achieve a dream. Lord knows, I couldn't have gotten to where I am without a few people spreading the word about me and my kayak adventures on KZbin! So, this is a small gesture of me giving back.
Anyone who thinks they can help can him can message me in the comments or on my Facebook page and I'll get you both in touch with each other.
lovekayak.fishing
It would be nice to someday say, You've heard of the Mooring Bar? I helped that guy get started!
And like I said at the end of the video, THANKS to everyone out there keeping trash where it belongs; Out of our waterways
Thanks for Watching
-Marty

the last time I got to go fishing with my dad he rented a jon boat from the COAST GUARD an we started at 4am. The moment we left the dock we started seeing trash in the water. my dad pulled back up to the boat launch and tied up the boat. he went into the office and ask the guy for a few large trash bags, we ended up spending 18 hrs on the river taking 8 full 35 gallon bags out of fowl river in mobile, ala. I love my dad for teaching me that life lesson that day. every time we came back for more bags the guy figured out what we were doing and refilled our gas tanks three times and got us lunch and dinner. we wanted to come back the next weekend but we couldn't rent the boat for four more months. I we had a canoe or kayak then that river would be the cleanest today. the last thing we talked about two weeks before he passed was that day. he actually apologize to me for not be able to fish that day. I told him, for what we did that day we gave other fathers and son a better and cleaner place to fish for the future. I don't know if the guy is still doing it, but he started a clean up program for that river then. if you brought back a bag of trash from the river they would give you something for free. its been 20 years since I been there though.

Its very upsetting to see the trash. When I go on the water I always find garbage and fishing line in the mangroves. I always do my best to get it all out. One time I had seen a pelican caught in fishing line that was stuck in the mangroves and I had manged to free it. Glad there are still people like you who always keeps the waterways clean. Great Video!

Yes, you should always keep your waterways clean. Thanks for showing and doing it! ..long time ago, it was our father who tought us boys to keep the nature clean when you leave your fishing spot (at the shore or on a boat) and nowadays its my son who surprised me with cleaning up the beach without telling him. :-)

Awesome video. A couple of boating observations: 1) I was taught to face the ladder on a boat at all times b/c you will want to do it without thinking when things are hairy. 2) When going into a low/no visibility weather situation, another thing to add to your checklist would be your compass heading, just in case the electronics go out. Not trying to be a know-it-all; just passing what I was taught. At the rate you're going, you will quickly have more experience than me.

Plus one million cool points for cleaning up the island. So many people love to take in the beauty of nature but often disrespect it with their trash. I used to go fishing with my grandparents back in the day and even tho I wasn't big into the fishing part I would spent my time cleaning up other people's garbage. I just don't understand how trashy people can be, pun intended.

Hi Marty, just ran into your video on U Tube . I find it so relaxing to watch. It’s like being there, I’ve learned a lot about boating. I own a Bayliner 2858 and just cruise the San Francisco Bay in California. It’s not the quality of a Chris Craft but it serves my needs. Your boat is really nice. I have a small 12’ aluminum boat which I tow behind my boat. I bought it from Montgomery Wards and it’s made by Sea King. Both companies no longer exist. As time permits, I will continue watching.

Mooring bar idea is nice idea. Best way to go about that is to perfect it, patent and sell to a boat outfitter like Taylor Made for a percentage of sales. That way they do all the work, take the liability and have capability to manufacture and the market presents.

@1pdigit
@1pdigit 7 жыл бұрын
If Sailing Salty was saying it's not meant for offshore I think he/she would have replied to the comment about taking it offshore, but he/she replied to my comment about catching a monster fish. So I just assumed he/she meant catching fish from it. However any saltwater fisherman would tell you this vessel is more than capable of going offshore. It has two fresh 350 cid Mercruiser engines in it. And the gulf is full of many different species of tuna, it's literally a breeding ground for certain types.......//my original comment was meant as a very light hearted thumbs up/pat on the back to Marty to let him know his subscribers care about him and always wish him the best.

I always take at least a small grocery bag out with me ever since seeing one of your old videos about 5 or 6 years ago(Keep our fishy spots clean I think it was called) when I first started kayak fishing. I may not catch fish everytime, but I usually have a full bag of trash that I collect. As for the thatch, I spent some time in England and met a few roofers who repaired the thatched rooves that are still common there. The key is to have it tightly packed. Next time you have to replace the thatch, overlap it a little thicker than you have here and it should make a noticeable different in the leaks.
