I think that harmonica’s used by barbershop quartets to make sure their voices are in tune, so as to perfect their harmony. One discordant sound, and it means that a quartet has one or more members who need to be trained again.

It’s called a pitch pipe. It’s used so the singers know where the key is. Even if a member has perfect pitch and can remember where keys are it’s best to use an instrument like this for absolute consistency.
