I have pulled those out before, but sometimes they are tough to get out! They're plastic so I only pull them if I really think I need to. I cringe every time I deal with plastic clips and retainers. My carb wasn't very dirty, it was mostly just old gas in the carb bowl. It probably would have run if I just dumped out the bowl and put it back together. I've only seen one of these that really needed the jet assembly removed. I have a video next week with another one of these motors. It was just bad gas as well. I have drilled these out before, and I overdrilled one once... I had a video on that a while back. My motor seems to run pretty good as is, so I've left the jet alone on it. The smaller of the Briggs E and EX series seem to be very sensitive to how much you drill them, so I tend to let them be if they run fairly decently. The one I ruined was one of the 5.00 lb-ft E series motors I believe. The motors I have to drill the carbs on the most (in order) are Tecumseh's, Briggs Quantum, then these E/EX series motors. I don't know what it is about Tecumseh motors, especially snow blowers around here, but they all run crappy. This area isn't that high above sea level, so maybe the jets are drilled for a "base" altitude of like 1000 feet above sea level and my altitude makes them just run slightly lean? That's the only thing I can think of to explain why so many Tecumseh motors run lean and poorly around here (even after extensive carb cleaning). I've seen snowblowers that are 15 years old that are essentially brand new with no more than 10 hours on them where the spark plug is ghost white, so that tells me these Tecumseh motors ran lean right out of the box. All the Tecumseh motors I have ever gotten (for myself) have been from people who try and try and just can't get them to run right (and usually mess them up more in the process)... like that 10hp one in the last few videos. I can understand, at least in my area, why Tecumseh motors get a very bad rep...
