CAMRY 2010-11 ATF WS Drain & Fill specifications:
Transmission model: U760
Torque:
• 24 mm refill bolt torque 36 lb-ft (pg 2528 of service manual)
• 6 mm drain bolt torque 30 lb-ft (pg 390)
• 6 mm hex plastic overfill tube torque 7 lb-in (not ft, be careful) (pg 6192)
Temperature:
• Ideal temperature to work on transmission fluid is 68F (pg 1033)
• Recommended temperature range for adjusting ATF level: (pg 6204)
• 95F or less
• If more than 113F stop and let it cool
• Move shift lever from P-D-P slowly
Quantity:
• Transmission fluid required for cold drain/fill: 2.7 liters approx.
Quality:
• Toyota ATF WS
Price:
• US$ 13-15/qt
Drain & Refill Steps:
1. Remove the refill bolt (that’s right, the refill bolt is the first)
2. Remove drain bolt
3. Remove plastic overflow tube (green color)
4. Measure the quantity of ATF removed
5. Install overflow tube, drain bolt
6. Tighten to specified torque
7. Refill the exact same quantity
8. Install refill bolt, tighten to torque
9. Check for leaks

I would change 2-3 times for full fluid exchange

That's dunb and wasteful. If the fluid is really degraded, you have a more serious problem that isn't going to be fixed no matter how many times you change fluid. If you just want to be more thorough, change the filter.

Hey! Thanks for the video. Isn’t it mandatory to change the filter as well? And is it important to follow the temperature recommendations measuring the fluid temperature?

Thanks. No its not mandatory to change the filter, just drain and fill is enough. You have to drop the pan to replace filter which is much more involved process with several failure points. Filter change maybe required if your transmission has been abused a lot and have never done drain/fill and your transmission is over say 150,000 miles. In that case, it already is tricky to change fluid. So best bet is to drain/fill every 50,000 miles. Temperature measurement is very important as fluid level will vary when it's hot or cold. You can avoid this by replacing fluid when cold and accurately measuring how much was removed and adding equivalent amount back.

@@akhaqan got it, thanks! Mine is 120K now and I don’t know if it has been ever changed. I don’t have any issues with a transmission though, so just want to make sure everything is well maintained. Would you recommend just to do drain and fill procedure?

@@nikolais9297 Yes, do it ASAP. Total transmission fluid is around 6 qt, drain & fill replaces just 2 quart, fyi.

It didn't look like you warmed car up by running before you drained it ? You did it cold ? The outside temperature is maybe 50-60 F out here . No difference if I warmed up car ?

Yes I did cold due to safety reasons, chances of burn injuries increase tremendously with hot oil and hot engine. Slightly longer time to drain all the fluid in cold weather

If the transmission oil has gone down, is it okay to add to it? Like adding 1 litre.

You can but the first question is do you see the signs of a leak, if not, you are going to overfill the transmission

You didn't drain the overflow because you measured exactly how much you took out, correct? Knowing my car, I'm not sure I trust the previous owner to have filled the correct amount :D

In this case, you can fill it till it overflows from the overflow tube. Then install the drain bolt, start the car and measure the temperature of the transmission pan with a laser thermometer, once it reaches around 100F, open the drain bolt again till the ATF starts draining and overflow is just a trickle, you are at the right level. Close the drain bolt. This is factory method.

@@akhaqan you take out the drain plug and once you let car reach specific temperature at 100 degrees using a laser heat thermometer and it drains out a lil . Then you put in drain plug ?

when you drive the car to the shop, the fluid is only drained 2L, if the car stayed overnight, will drain 3L, so the fluid will be drained 2L-3L depend on how long time the car stopped.

you didn't use torque wrench to tighten the drain plug.

When you have worked long enough on cars, you get a fairly good idea about torque without using torque wrench.
