This is incorrect because when pulled the plug out there is a dipstick leveler that should not have any fluid come out until this dipstick is removed after removing plug. Means that it has to much transmission fluid in it.

Before I try or just go to dealer thank you

Thank you Alejandro. I waited for transmission fluid to cool down, to become same temperature as replacement fluid. Basically to be outside temp. Than I measured what amount I took out and put same amount back into transmission. For how to measure please refer to my video. Because of I did not have any leak I decided to measure amount instead to mess with overflow. I did not have any problems so far. Car drives much better. If you take your time and do it carefully you definitely can do it yourself and save some money.

Thank you for watching my video. In your case you need to know history of your vehicle and if you did not have change of fluid before, a lot of people recommend to not do it at all, as it might do more harm than good. If you had regular maintenance every 30-50k miles and don't have any visible transmission fluid leak, I will recommend change fluid as I have in my video. Do it once and based on condition of fluid decide do you need do it again.

I tried doing it this other way to check fluid but it didn’t work out. It called for warming car up to specific temperature and using laser temperature gun to get it to 95-113 F . Temperature was too erratic I got very different temperatures. I was supposed to remove drain plug and wait for a trickle and put it back on . Never got a trickle just steady drain . I drained about same amount that I overfilled it. Oh well.. the thing is your way could be wrong . How ? How do we know it was filled correctly in the first place? Soo if we refill it the same amount as we took out.. thinking it’s the correct amount..anyway I did it by your method. Been running car it seems great . Will probably do another one soon to get as much fluid changed.
@averagemaintenance3875
@averagemaintenance3875 6 ай бұрын
I understand it is hard to know all those things about level in first place and be exact with temperatures. I think it is important that your car works well. Next time, in my opinion, whatever you take out let it cool down to the outside temperature and put that same amount back.

Hey guys, I have a 2011 Toyota Camry SE, with a 2.5K 4Cylinder engine. When the car was first bought by my mom, she was told it was a SEALED transmission and that the fluid was good for the life of the car. Unfortunately, she listened to that claim and never changed the transmission fluid. The car was given to me with around 160K miles on it. Come to find out, its NOT actually a sealed transmission, and the dipstick is just on the bottom of the car. I have heard that you should not change the trans fluid if it’s past 100,000 because it can do more harm than good, but I really want to change it. Should I still change the trans oil? Ik this may be a bit of a newbie question but I’m still learning about cars 🙏🙏
@averagemaintenance3875
@averagemaintenance3875 10 күн бұрын
It is definitely risky, and ultimately, it is up to you.. Based on what you say that you really want to change it, you could at least check the condition of fluid by doing what I have done. Take out a small amount of fluid, and put the same amount back. You will refresh the condition of fluid and won't disturbe seals and gears. If all is good, you could do it again after a few thousand miles. The goal is to have fluid redish and not black. Good luck.

You will need to know your specific capacity per your manual, because it could be different for all different type of engines. That is why I did it as per my video and not to mess with total capacity then replace exact amount of fluid that I took out. I did it three times which need to be close to total capacity. I know it is not 100 percent flush but per a lot of people it is life time fluid and I jus wanted to refresh quality of it and check condition of the fluid. My mechanic said my transmission is low on fluid. So how can I tell the amount to refill when it's already low on fluid?
@averagemaintenance3875
@averagemaintenance3875 3 жыл бұрын
First of all you need to check what is reason for low fluid level, do you have a leak or other problem with transmission. There is that green piece, straw, that I was talking about in my video which is used to control fluid level at temperature of 104 degrees. If fluid is not coming out when parked level and when you take drain plug off, that means you are low on fluid. To add some fluid refer to my video that shows adding fluid through that side hole behind driver side wheel. Challenge here is to know exact temp if you don't have the tool for it. In my opinion if you add room temperature fluid, to just cooled of transmission in garage, you might end up having a bit more of fluid which should come out over plastic straw. If your transmission is over or under less than a quarter of a quart than it should not be a problem.

@@safeerahmad1852 You can follow my video to drain some of the fluid and put same amount back in and not mess with level but at same time to improve condition of fluid. If you drove more than 30000 miles it is recommended to replace fluid. I think you will be fine up to 50000 depending how is car driven.

I have heard about not changing fluid at high milage and was reluctant to do it myself but after my son told me about method that I made video about, it made sense to me as fluid is only partially refreshed if you do it once, for about 2 quarts. Then you could see condition of your fluid. If is too old and dark in color, not red, drive it for few hundred miles, if not couple of thousand after first change and see how it works. Based on that you can decide if you want to do it again or not. Look for shavings in the used fluid. Good luck.

I did not mess too much with leveling as it was not easy for me at my home and tools I have. Because I did not have a leak anywhere around Transmission, that is the reason I just took whatever amount of fluid I could and put back exactly the same, as per my video. I know mechanics and dealers do it in different ways, and if there is a fluid leak, then capacity needs to be addressed. But that is a different issue.

He had to tightened the bolt, he checked my transmission oil and he said my transmission fluid is low , I need to top it... Question is can I top the transmission oil while the car is still hot ??? Or does it need to cool off before I top it off ?? Will their be any adverse effects???

Do you have dipstick to measure level or you have sealed transmission? If you have dipstick then you have cold and hot points. If is sealed transmission you have to find in your manual all filler plugs and level plug, as well as more instruction on how to do it specificly, as all cars are different.

Teach it right or don't teach it at all God bless you and Israel.😊ken

I went a local repair shop to have the trans fluid in my 05 Camry changed at 100k miles . (This was 10 years ago.) His parts store where they get their parts asked "why?". He told me on the Trans dip stick it said "this trans fluid should never be changed." I saw it myself!! The dealer here locally wants to change it every 30k miles. More money in their pocket. My 14 Camry is a sealed transmission. It's not even listed in their Maintenance book. I think everyone on this site that is telling you to change it--- is either a mechanic or affiliated with a dealership. Under normally operating conditions, leave the dam transmission fluid alone!!
