Years ago here in Arizona all dump sites we're burned nowadays it's against the law most areas don't allow burn pits but if you have one it's going to be at least 10 feet or more deep I like yours better I'm glad that you used and showed all the safety precautions that should be taken so many do not do this when they have fires small or big thanks

Thanks for the good tips. Can I give you some of my experience? I dragged that big bar chainsaw all over my brush piles for a few years before I bit the bullet and got a small one too. I bought the MS 180 for under $200 and I'm mighty glad I did. It's extremely light so lifting it up and around the branches is easier and leads to less fatigue so I can work safely longer. Additionally, the short little bar is more manageable in the tight spots. I highly recommend when your taxes get given back to you that you get yourself a "wife saw" if you're going to be cutting a lot of brush.

Yep the MS271 is a little heavy. I like the 20” bar too. It took me a while to get used to it but now I can work on it all day with no problem. Losing 53 lbs probably helped too👍

@HollisNancysHomestead
@HollisNancysHomestead 5 жыл бұрын
I follow the wind and humidity requirements too. Here in Florida if your debris pile is under 8 feet you don’t need the burn pit. Even though I don’t need a burn pit for the small burns, I still follow the rules. If my pile is greater than 8 feet I apply for the burn permit ❤️

@@HollisNancysHomestead Here in East Central Georgia, I get a burn permit each time I burn. We have a forest ranger station just around the corner. Unfortunately, we have a burn ban from May through September, and the pile can get pretty big. It's difficult to get it all burned before may since February and March can be pretty windy and it rains most of April. I'm hoping to get most everything trimmed and burned before May (if it will stop raining). Lol. Love your videos. God bless you guys!

Where I live in Ga we must get a permit to burn. We have to call for wind conditions and at any point we have to be prepared to stop. I’m a chicken when it comes to burning. I have a burn barrel that I use, I keep my garden hose near me and I don’t burn leaves because the ash tends to fly up. I may be overkill on safety but I sleep better. Great video, very informative. God Bless.

Hi Hollis, you should use the ash from the burn pit in your earth garden as it will add potassium and if there's any charcoal that adds to moisture retention and helps to lock in nutrients from being washed away. Great to see your very first practical video from Florida can't wait for the others.

Burn pit is a must have. Diseased plants and livestock are best disposed of in it. Ashes and charcoal/biochar are valuable resources as well. Not to mention the group gatherings and fun times to be had around a big bonfire. You will use it every year. Can't chip or compost everything all the time.

I use a pit whenever I can as I have a backhoe. Another trick from years of burning is diesel fuel in a garden sprayer. My fires tend to be 3-4x bigger Than what you burned. Diesel in a garden sprayer uses minimal fuel with big benefits to get a stubborn fire lit. The cheapest garden sprayer at Home Depot is about nine dollars it works perfectly you can use a half a gallon of diesel and start a 20’ x 20’ fire no problem and completely safe

Different parts of the country are very much different in their burn rules/habits. Nice design for your area I'm sure. With the different weather and fuels for different areas. An example of much different conditions is where I live in Iowa is that most of the time you couldn't get a "wildfire" to start if you wanted to. Some days though stuff will go up with the drop of a match. We do controlled burns of our grass fields and pastures often.
