When Smith was on 7 off 34, I sent a comment into CricInfo under the name Ben Foakes saying "I would have been at least 15 by now". Two balls later and Smith was on 15. It's a gift.

Smith stood tall in the most memorable test match in England cricket (probably).

It's early days but, based on this game, Smith could be wearing the gloves for England for some time to come. He seems a better keeper than Buttler or Bairstow and he certainly seems to be more the type of batter that England are looking for than Foakes. While he may not be as good as Bairstow at his best and his innings strike rate wasn't too high here, he seems to have higher gears that Foakes doesn't. He won't be Adam Gilchrist but if he can average 35-40 and keep to the standard he did here, England will be happy. It will be interesting to see how his glovework compares to Foakes in spin-friendly conditions.
