I watched him while I was in school and growing up. He never was the most stylish or flashy batsman, but he was so solid and reliable. Very unassuming and humble. A tremendous accumulator of runs. When he was in the mood he can score just as fast a anyone in the game. He was always a great partner to Brian Lara and they complimented each other so well. Glad to see him doing well in retirement.

That was an unforgettable innings by Changerpaul (the one mentioned in the Shane Warne story). I still remember that innings today. Strangely that was my second favourite Chanderpaul innings although he did not go on to make a century. Its good to to hear Shiv talk about it, because I wondered whether I was the only one that remembered it.Shiv gave the Aussies alot to think about that day! Took the attack right back to them.

A great cricketer he stood up on many occasions and saved the West Indies from defeat he also hold his wicket for for many players to make records and to make centuries he was player of a different calibre where he performed at different levels of the game wether test or one dayers or T20, at the surprised end of his career everyone knows that he was given a disgusting send off. He wasn't treated with any dignity, I must say the West Indies selectors did not have the courtesy to appreciate a legend who toiled so much for West Indies cricket but I hail the greatness of the man who played the anchor role on many occasions, may Lord Shiva continue to bless him abundantly jai Chanderpaul

As an Indian we all know he is a legend. But I liked one aspect of him for which my friends mocked me. I have seen in 2-3 ODIs when WI toured India, Shiv could play as fast as Lara or even Ricardo Powell. But the difference was, when Shiv started scoring fast, he rarely gave any chances. For a brief period when Hooper was captain (i think) , I feared Shiv more than Lara cos he was very unconventional when scoring fast. I am sure if he had started in 2007 era, he could have easily played 75 of 50 ball knocks in T20.

May not be as beautiful as Rahul Dravid but perhaps more effective in a team where there were no Fab 3 or Fab 4. He had burden of entire team in test for a long long time. The way I used to bat,I used to try to get the bowlers to get fed up of me . The other players used to say that I was negative. This is why I preferred the old Tiger to Lara. West indies should have kept him another four or five years to shield Daren Bravo and Adrian Bharat . The Australians destroyed them.
