Gavaskar as a true legend and badass, he played in the 70s and 80s when fast bowlers went wild. He faced the Likes of Lillee, Thomson, Marshall, Holding, Roberts, Garner, Hadlee, Botham, Willis, Imran, Wasim etc and scored most runs and centuries in the world (at that time) in all kinds of conditions. Sometimes i feel like we indians have totally forgotten about how great gavaskar truly is.

India didn't even have a fast bowler in their domestic circuits and every other nation had fierce fast bowlers. Gavaskar had to invent new ways to practice and counter the amazingly cruel fast bowlers of the 70s and 80s. And remember the best team in the world in his time were the West Indies and he has 13 centuries against them. So you can keep up with your selective reporting because for me he's still the best test opener of all time.

I don't know how Asif used to do it unlike other bowlers but with same wrist position he can move the ball both ways. And what makes him more dangerous is if there is no swing in the air he will get you with the seam movement.
