Ran into this issue on my 2016 Forester XT, however the problem was not a fuse in my case. Got stranded a couple of times and while getting a jump, after a few tries, it would start. Turns out that was by chance. On the most recent occurrence, I got it home in the garage and immediately began investigating. This video definitely helped get me on the right track in that it was an electrical issue other than the starter/battery. I did connect my battery to a charger which indicated it was good. I noticed the car was complaining about pressing the brake pedal before pushing start even though I was pressing it down. Also, the start button had an orange light on it, not green, I believe also indicating it wasn't ready to start due to the brake pedal. So now I started to suspect whatever sensor was attached to the brake pedal. I found the wire harness at the top of the brake pedal that connects the sensor(and probably does other things) and gave it a wiggle. Sure enough, that was the issue, and it started right up on the next attempt. I don't have a permanent fix for this yet, but at least now i can avoid having to get a jump or tow until I can figure out why this sensor/harness is so touchy. HTH. UPDATE: Got this fixed by dealership after they issued a recall(WUE90 - "Brake Lamp Switch Replacement") for it

Thanks for the info. I'm currently experiencing similar issue with my 16 XT where it randomly doesn't start. I jumped it once and it worked but two other times I've had to have it towed to the dealer (still under an extended warranty) and then it starts just fine as soon as it gets there and they keep it a couple days and it never fails for them. I got it home the first time and 5 days later it won't start again no matter how many times I try. It's a new battery and has a full charge. I'm going to get it back (they want to throw a $700 starter repair at it even though they can prove it's a starter) and check these fuses and harnesses first!

@@amywest4054 Messing with the harness/switch might get you by sometimes, but maybe not every time. Best to have dealership perform the repair listed for recall WUE90(Brake Lamp Switch Replacement). It sucks that in both of our cases, expenses were incurred for towing, lost time, misdiagnosed repairs, etc. and no way to get that reimbursed.

Thanks George!!! It worked, however, my fuse was a 10amp and was on the bigger fuse panel to the left of the service panel yours was on. I have a 2016 Subaru Impreza. The fuse position was labelled as ‘Start’. From the bottom left hand corner of the fuse panel it was the second from the left and second from the bottom....2 over and 2 up. Thanks buddy. ✌🏼

Thank you so much my 2016 sti randomly died on the highway in traffic. I had to get it towed. I couldn’t figure out what it was for many people couldn’t figure it out but I came across this video and sure enough my fuse was blown. Just throwing this out there because I came across this video while my 2010 Impreza was showing the same issue. I did not have any blown fuses. All I had to do was put the car in neutral and then back into park. It started right up after that!

Tried this out, weirdly enough my fuse wasn’t blown.. so I swapped it with another 15M fuse, pressed the ignition button and nothing happened. I forgot to take my foot off the brake peddle and about 5 seconds after it gave me a slow crank. Cheers for the video, I would’ve never known which fuse to replace!

A bit of advice for future videos, put some thought into the verbal aspect of it beforehand. I'm not putting you down, just trying to be critical in a positive way. If you prepare your speech before filming then you can articulate the core purpose of your video precisely and consistently. People are kind when they're happy and they usually express gratitude in the moment so this simple tweak to your approach could be of utility. In this case it sounds like your alternater is bad. Therefor the battery isnt being charged. Hope this helps

I brought it in to my local automotive electrical shop and had the tech basically unplug and plug back in the remote starter. No issues since.

Probably losing fuel prime. Try cycling the key a few times from off to on but dont crank it. After few times of cycling then try to start it. Could be a clogged fuel filter too

that is not a high idle, that is the starter spinning along because the starter solenoid did not let go after the engine started, and that is why the fuse is blown ... why else do you think he let it run for couple seconds only ... runs no problem, yeah right ...

Doesn't work for 05 - 09 Leg/OBK's. Unless you know where the other fuse box as there is only 2 fuse locations in the Leg/OBK's. Knee panel and engine bay.

I had a very similar problem on my 2014 Forester. I checked the fuse per this video but the fuse was fine. A little more diagnosis showed the wire to the starter solenoid was both loose and corroded. Cleaned up and tightened the connection and all is good now.

I just had this exact problem, but the fuse was not blown. I took it in, and they said the brake switch goes bad on these and shorts so it doesn't recognize the brakes are being pushed and won't start. It acted exactly like your example. 2016 Impreza. The other thing is, the problem was intermittent because the car did start the next day and I was able to drive to the dealers. but in some cases is it possible that this fuse would blow, and then not start at all? Subaru fixed it at no charge, but on the push button model, the brake has to be applied for the car to start. There is a sensor that detects if the brake is pressed and this went out so car would not start. I'm not sure where it's located, but I suspect near the brake pedal.

I had this happen today on my 2017 Subaru Legacy. It was -10 F this morning, so this may have been related, but it was the same issue. I started the car, drove it, made a couple stops, then when I tried to start it nothing happened. I tried 3-4 times. I looked at things on the net with my phone, and someone said the transmission is touchy and it's a safety thing or something. I wiggled the transmission, pushed hard on my brake and tried to turn again. The car started up like normal. It would make perfect sense that it was a brake sensor.
