I was expecting an overview of Open Whisper Protocol of Signal in this video. That's what I assumed from the title of the video. If you can do that will be a great favor for us, Clayton! Thank you.

Hi Atiq, that's beyond my technical capabilities. I made this video many years ago to send to my friends and family to convince them to download and use Signal. Back then it was really hard to find in the Android store by searching only "Signal" which is why I included the "Open Whisper System" in the title so they could search the whole name and find it. I can't use Signal because I can't send messages to friends who have Signal as well. What am I doing wrong?

What kind of error are you getting?

Well, I can't find my friends who use Signal too. As I search them on my contacts list, I see no one. Last night I could find a friend but he couldn't send me any messages. That's odd.

Is there a way to turn on read receipts
@ClaytonDorris8 жыл бұрын
No, that feature isn't available at this time. There is a delivery confirmation icon, but not a read receipt.

because all of those access permissions are potentially shareable or uses of/for/over SMS. Let's say camera for example, that's generally an MMS. You might want to send an encrypted picture from your gallery. It must have permission to access the picture, then it must encrypt it, then it must send it, then your recipient must decrypt it for it be to secure. Otherwise you couldn't send it at all through the app. Plus, if your recipient doesn't have the app, it remains non-secure. So I think your concern is mitigated. My only real confusion or concern is different from yours (yours is indeed a valid one, but explainable). My concern is how my SMS or MMS does not show up as unintelligble to non-users. If I send an encrypted MMS to a non-user, how did they unencrypt it? I'm sure the (open) source code explains it but I am not qualified to audit such things. I think both our concerns are taken care of, though.

dec2 I remember reading/hearing somewhere that the messages are only encrypted between two individuals who have the app. So sending a mms to a non user would be like sending a regular msg.

dec2 from what I understand, signal senses whether you are sending to another signal user or to a non signal user. if it is a single-user it transmits encrypted if it is a non signal user it transmits unencrypted.

It's non profit, so that means they cook their books. Who gives a shit if they're non profit, suck wax?
