I have looked at approximately 100 videos on making kitchen cabinets. This video is the most explanatory simple and most liked. There was nothing that was not understood. Everything was explained and showed in the most understanding way.

Excellent pair of videos. I can't see a reason anyone couldn't follow your thorough instruction and with access to some tools make a cabinet. The thing that puts you head and shoulders over the rest is your including reasoning into why you do the steps you do, and in the order you do them. Good job.

I have to build an L shaped (removable for seasons) set up for a horribly out of level paver porch corner. Are the holes in the bottom shelf inside for leg adjustment? Im assuming they are. Other than that this was the closest video I could find to what I was after. Good clarity of the build. Too many of these videos assume you know certain things and they leave you hanging and aggravated.
@downtoearthwoodworks6 жыл бұрын
William, thank you so much. Yes, those access holes are so a slotted screwdriver can be put into the tops of the leg levelers and adjustments can be made. Find some plastic compression-fit caps to plug the holes, or better, find the caps and drill the holes to match whatever caps you can find. On an outdoor cabinet that will help keep critters from finding their way into the cabinet!

Thanks for the video !!! Always a pleasure to watch. But still confused about how much the face frames overhang on the inside of the cabinet. Is there a standard amount? Does it depend on the drawer slides being used? Thanks again !

What is the total cost of each cabinet? Thank you for these videos. You really are down to earth and I appreciate it.
@downtoearthwoodworks8 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching! It's really hard to say, since there are so many variables. The cabinet grade plywood will cost anywhere from about $40 - $80 / sheet, depending on the face veneer and other variables. The hardwood lumber is highly variable. The drawer slides are roughly $20 apiece, depending on length, etc. I would guess that I have $150-$200 in a base cabinet when all is said and done.

When using roller bearing slides on your drawers will the width of the drawer (OD) always be 1" smaller than the cabinet opening ??

With most slides I have used, yes. There may be others on the market with difference clearance sizes, so be sure to read the specifications or instructions that come with the slides.

what is your desired facefram overhang on both sides? 1/8" each side?
@downtoearthwoodworks6 жыл бұрын
Yes, except on any side that will be butted up to a wall, then I will typically put a 1/4" overhang so that the edge can be scribed to fit should the wall not be perfectly straight. Thanks for watching!

Did you only use glue to attach the face frame? If so , is that not a weak joint?
@downtoearthwoodworks8 жыл бұрын
Glue only is fine. Because the long grain of the hardwood face frame is being glued to the edges of the plywood (not the face veneer), and with today's great glues, there is little chance of failure. In fact, in tests I did a few years ago, the wood will break before the glue joint. Of course, this is contingent upon having two perfectly mating surfaces... as good as the glue is, it does not fill gaps well. But if everything is level and flat, the glue alone is plenty strong.
@wendymattelaer58177 жыл бұрын
I was going to ask the same question. I think I will use something more than just glue for the face frames that support doors though; people have a tendency to lean on doors to view inside cabinets.
@wendymattelaer58177 жыл бұрын
ps great tutorial thanks. :-)

why didn't put the pocket hole screws on the outside instead of the inside showing?
@downtoearthwoodworks8 жыл бұрын
+Johnson Mike You are correct. And typically I do. If you watch the balance of the videos you will see that this cabinet becomes "all drawers" so nothing will show on the inside. If you watch the series on building the bathroom vanity, you will see that I did put the pocket screws where they would not show. Thanks for watching!

isn't it easy if you make the faceframe AFTER you make the cabinet , maybe that's what's new people doing because it hard to know exactly the size and reveal for the faceframe
@lefullhouse6 жыл бұрын
For your drawer slides, your face frame is too wide on the inside. Will you add spacers on the sides to bring the slides out?otherwise, your slides will never reach the drawers.

Why would you use 3/4" ply for cabinets, especially wall hung cabinets. That's a lot of weight to hang on the wall, when you could use 1 /2" ?
@fkalamo46 жыл бұрын
The cabinet he made was a base cabinet not a wall hanging cabinet. You should revise your question as to what ply to use for wall hung cabinets.
@abacab874 жыл бұрын
You need 3/4 to fasten the face-frame to. Whether you glue them or nail or use pocket screws. The pre-built store cabinets are rabbeted into the faceframe, which would work.

You mentioned making rails and styles 2 different measurements....saying u would mention later but didn’t here anything.....??
@ReinierKaper5 жыл бұрын
The styles were a bit wider to accommodate for the 1/8th inch overhang on the left and right. Also, some people prefer the vertical pieces to be slightly wider than the horizontal pieces, it's just aesthetics / matter of taste.
