Thanks for that - I know pileofstuff made a case for his on video, but you are the first to do an overview of capabilities.

This one is the big brother of mine. But I do have one of this version on order. It will show up in some future mailbag.

I have one of these. I made a plexiglass case for it. To push the buttons, I used coffee stirrers with small dowels on the ends.

If there is one thing you should get, it's this device, it can "do it all" providing your supply can supply the power at 10 volts or more. Cheap for what it's capable of.

I commented on your other video asking about the power supply. Great to see, thank you.

The module seems great, when i got my own supply i kind of went all out and bought an almost 70 dollar supply, a HPS305D. Despite it being really expensive it works great and is virtually indestructible and despite it being one of those simple 4 pot ones i haven't had a single issue with it. For your unit might i suggest one of those project cases that have a handle similar to an old oscilloscope, a decently sized one would have room for everything you need, might make for a cool video.

i have been looking at that module for a while and thinking to myself, i wonder if he is ever going to talk about that thing.

Is the output protected to shorts? Can I use it for faultfinding on PCB's? Like powerinjection (i.e. 5V/3A) to find a shorted component?
@SimpleElectronics
@SimpleElectronics 3 жыл бұрын
It is not protected for shorts but it does have adjustable current limiting, which serves the same purpose, just not as quick. You can also just make a rig where you install an automotive fuse or a breaker in series if you wish

Sorry if this is a stupid question but what is that graph patterned work surface you are using and where might I find one? Thank you for your excellent content!
@SimpleElectronics
@SimpleElectronics 4 жыл бұрын
No such thing as stupid questions; this is a self-healing cutting mat, it's self-healing because it remains flat even if you cut into it. In reality it's not 100% effective, but close enough! I got mine in the sewing section of my local Walmart, which is why it's purple, but most people buy them on Amazon or at hobby shops and they are typically green

How low can the output voltage/current go ? It's nice that it has display resolution of 1mV and 1mA and nice that you are able to set it to 1mV or 1mA, but can it actually do those low numbers ? I already own several variable PSU's, some are buck, some buck/boost and some linear. I found out that it's very hard for my linear PSU's to regulate anything under 2V, even when i set it to 1.2V on the display (or anything below 2V) it just outputs 2V. It's not a malfunction, it's just not achievable with that particular design. The same issue on very low output current. With my tongue at the right angle I'm able to turn the pot to set (limit) the output current to 0,012A (12mA) but when i would connect an LED (that was rated for a current of 22mA) it would do a short bright flash and could go straight into the bin. It is because when i actually measure the current it's more like 0.150A, even when it says 0.012A on the display. That PSU allows me to set it to low output values( on the display), but can't actually output (regulate) those low values. Other PSU designs like the ones using LM317 can't regulate below 1.25V (if i remember correctly). I had to choose/buy a whole other PSU with internally negative voltages for it's op-amps to actually regulate the output voltage all the way down to 0V. How about the D3806 ? Are you able to illuminate a 10mA or 20mA LED without using a resistor ??
@SimpleElectronics
@SimpleElectronics 4 жыл бұрын
I've used it down to 20mA for sure, I'll have to test it's absolute limits, but I did go down to 1v before as well
