Nice and unexpected surprise this review! It's been a while since I've studied (on the net...) the then two available P-39s in 1:48th. The winner was Hasegawa because, although older, it was more accurate than Eduard, so I have it in my stash. This Arma Hobby one seems ok at first look. It remains to see it built in order to find out how close to the real thing it is.... The lack of details is justified because the Airacobra was pretty smooth in real life, in contrast to the dinosaur that the Hurricane really was. 🙂 Thank you!

The Arma Hobby fixes the too thin Hasegawa wing tips. And the Hasegawa prop!

The P-39 from Arma Hobby is BRILLIANT! It's head and shoulders comparable to Eduards Cobra-like toy which has hilarious geometry issues (wrong wing TWICE thicker than it's needed, wrong profile and radiators block), wrong fuselage (canopy 2mm aft, stab 4mm forward). And at the top of its right geometry it has Eduard's surface details. Highly recommended!

@gadeeshi no rivets…shame…but I agree with your opinion about Eduard's P-39 (P-400), it's a complete failure.

@@bloopero I don't care about OOB rivets at all. I'll need just to buy Quinta's positive rivets and just make mine recessive ones with the riveter tool where applicable. And BTW the most of the "rivets" are not actually rivets but Zus type screw locks for panels and access hatches. Will make them with jewelry crowning tool or self-made one.

opinions vary concerning the Airacobra , I have always loved the shape of the aircraft , the way it sits on that tricycle gear .

Thanks for a nice review. I might have to try this one...I've been very impressed with Arma Hobby in the past. This is a unique airframe. However I'm awaiting delivery of my Eduard Bloody 100th 1/48 B-17...which I figure will take up all my modeling time. Nice work on the Eduard P-39...especially for what it seems is a "challenging" kit.

Great presentation, The alarans and the flaps appear to be fixed, to bad. The horizontal stabilizers are separate, that's good. Will you open up the exhaust pipes or is quick boost even available yet? Thanks for the black background, easier to see the parts. I look forward to your build. thank you.

So the last quarter-scale Airacobra I built was one of Monogram's white box offerings in the '70's. This may be the first Arma Hobby kit I pick up.

You can build almost any P-39 version from the kit, but not the P-39Q-21 or Q-25 which both had a 4-bladed prop. There were 109 Q-21s built and 700 Q-25s. The USSR and France got most of this production. Perhaps Arma will do a special boxing that includes the 4-blader as a 3D-printed part. The underwing gun pods are for the P-39Q. Earlier versions of the Airscobra had two internal guns per wing at the same location as the gun pod is attached. It’s not possible to have the wing guns and gun pods because the pod would block the cartridge ejector ports from the MGs.

The last scheme (Soviet) depicts the plane from the 65-th Guards Fighter Regiment (fighter wing, 4 squadrons) of the 5-th Guards Figher Division (5-th Fighter Air Force, 4 fighter regiments). Guards units are elite forces of the Soviet and Russian army.
