A friend of mine told me when he was quite young his father gave him an old Briggs and Stratton engine in pieces . His father told him to put it together , which he did. That engine gave his interest in things mechanical a kick start. One time there was a group of older teenagers driving an old ford sidevalve in a field , it had stopped and my friend went over to see what had happened. He was just 12 at the time and those older teenagers wouldnt normally have allowed him to hang around with them, let alone ride in their car. He found that the points were worn out so he rode to a local service station and had a rummage through their scrap bin and found a set of worn points which he then took back to the stopped Ford, installed the points and got their car going again. He was their hero from then on they allowed him to ride in their old car anytime.

That’s great! I had a 1916 with the same carburetor. The float went bad and was able to use one out of a John Deere tractor. Your T sounds really good!

Great job! I’m super happy about young guys like you being so interested in old cars! Enjoy it!

You know there are kids out there who have the interest and the undeveloped ability to do this just that they never have the opportunity.

Nice job I have a 1914 model T same carburetor but not a cork float. Is this something you would replace down the line?
@diyluke91224 жыл бұрын
That is great. I have two carbs - one has a cork float and the other has a brass float. The cork one can degrade but lots of Ts have them. Try to run non ethanol fuel.

Cork does not stand up to modern fuels. I use brass without issue.

So Luke, is this your model T or are you just using it to learn how to do stuff. I guess that you have a while to go to get your driver's license. As you get more experience with cars, you'll find that newer cars have a lot of computers in them. So I guess, you'll have to learn about their operating programs too.
