Hey Crafsman, Like others, I just came to check back in and make sure you were still planning to make videos since your channel is so great, and I saw you replied to another comment saying you were having trouble coming up with unique stuff to talk about. I wanted to say that I think a lot of people (myself included) aren't super familiar with what you might think is a common technique, so don't be afraid to make videos about less specific stuff, we will still watch them! Also, off the top of my head, I recall you were making stone veneer for a wall in a different video and I'd personally love to see a video about how to apply the veneer to the wall or even just any more concrete projects you might be working on. Your concrete videos inspired me to get into masonry a bit and I've since built a brick fire pit (complete with mortar, not just stacked) and I have plans to do a stone veneer retaining wall as well (I'm currently mold shopping). I'll keep checking back, I watch all of your videos 5-10 times and I know I'm not alone in that. Thanks for the effort and all the great tips so far.
@TheCrafsMan7 жыл бұрын
Tyler, that is extremely encouraging to me. Thank you so much. I do have actually two videos in mind, and hope to be cutting those together soon. I'm tickled to hear that the concrete veneer video inspired you to make a brick fire pit! Right time of year for that, too! :D Thank you again for the big encouragement, sir!

Thank you so much for that! It means a lot to me. I would like to do more videos, but the biggest problem is coming up with a technique I feel is interesting enough to do a video about. Hi, CrafsMan! Haven't seen any videos from you lately...I do subscribe, but YT hasn't been sending them to me lately.... annnyyyhooo, I LOVE THIS ONE!!! I just happened to have tried Easy Mold for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Gotta make small molds and WORK FAST with that stuff, but it does a great job! I got it cuz I tried the DIY recipes for silicone and ended up with hit-and-miss results. A whole lotta mess and not reliable results. So yea, Easy Mold was, well - - EASY! And I have been using Apoxie sculpt for years. ALSO GREAT STUFF! I didn't know any of that stuff about the mica powder tho! I have some and I'm excited to try it now. Thanks for another amazing CrafsMan Show!!!! Hugs, cat
@TheCrafsMan7 жыл бұрын
HEY, CAT! :D Glad you saw this one. Yes, Easy Mold is fantastic. And you do have to work pretty quick. I remember making mold of a large figure the first time I ever got it. I realized that not only do you have to have everything ready to go, but the more mass to the mold, the quicker it cures. Hope you enjoy combining the mica powder with your castings! You can even get really creative and "dust" specific parts of the mold with different colors.

Nice video i learned that epoxy i uses to uses can be used for the casting positive. But still lacking negative rubber based products for a negative. The only ones are silicone , latex, or rubber based hardware products that need to be modified unless one has access to the pro quality custom designers silicon /latex based products don't know exactly where those are sold locally.
@TheCrafsMan6 жыл бұрын
The platinum cure and other 2-part silicone mold products do indeed typically have to be ordered (at least around where I live), unless you want to get creative with regular silicone. I have seen tutorials where people use the regular stuff to make a mold, but it is more on the messy side. :/

This is a great tutorial for making objects from molds! I was wondering though once you make the mold how can you add a hook or a hole to put it on a necklace?
@TheCrafsMan6 жыл бұрын
Hi Chelsea! If you'd like to make a hole in the cast piece, you can either drill through it (if it's a hard plastic or epoxy, like I use in the video) OR you can plan ahead of time while making the mold and incorporate a "pin" or "peg" into the mold so that, when cast, you'll have a hole through that part of the cast piece. That might be a little trickier than just drilling, and you may also have more chance of air bubbles with that approach. What I would suggest is the method I've used in the past: Before making the mold, take the piece you'll be copying and add a little dimple or tiny indention to the area where it should be drilled (like at the top, if you're making a necklace pendant)... then when you make the mold, and copies of the piece, you'll have a mark showing you where to drill. Hope this helps!

Hi Tara! Thanks for watching! I imagine they can be used outside in some capacity. I actually made one which was mixed with iron oxide, because I wanted to see if I could get it to look rusted. Left it out for many days. It didn't rust, but it didn't mess up in any other way, either. I probably wouldn't build a permanent monument out of epoxy putty, but overall it's pretty durable. :)

Hey Crafsman, jus wonderin'.. Could the real metal powder react with the methods in your patina episode and make patina looking metal plastic?
@TheCrafsMan5 жыл бұрын
Hey Chad! It's possible. I've had mixed results getting patina from powders, due to the way it's sorta... "grainy". Like when I mix copper powder with epoxy, the surface isn't a smooth continuous copper surface, and the patina looks different when it's attempted. But there are some possibilities here, for sure!

That's awesome! I need to see if I can find those products, or their alternatives, here in South Africa :D Is the QuickSteel durable enough to be drilled into to create a hole for a bail or jump ring? Thanks so much for the video!
@TheCrafsMan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Delyth! Nice to hear from you again! According to the manufacturer, QuickSteel is drillable and sandable. If drilling to attach a jump ring, I would be sure to leave some good thickness on the top, so that the jump ring doesn't pull through. Hope this helps!

I was not able to watch it, but did see the previews and reviews of the movie. That art duplicator/mimic is AMAZING! Crazy but amazing! His skills are beyond belief how he can mimic so many art styles, that is a true master in itself. He is kinda insane though...from the little snippets of the movie that i saw, the man has some mental issue. But i have to say...if you could do what he can do...wouldn't you do it? I know i would..crazy or not!
