Brilliant practical informative advice thank you 🙏 Ben. I have had 2.5 years of overwhelming events so my nervous system is easily triggered with regular everyday events which is exhausting. The breath and clicking fingers plus the clap really worked last night. Thoughts are so triggering so this pattern interrupt really helped. So simple! I take beta blockers and an antidepressant but would so like to come off them and be able to self regulate 🙏

For some reason, meditation technique I started using had been causing more freeze, with a lot of anxiety. At times it did the opposite, at first. So now I've tried this intentional contraction and there is definitely re-laxing. Very cool. Thanks.

I like this tension hold idea. I like using mindfulness meditation, trying to be 100% focused on one body part when possible. I learned some mindfulness techniques from the book 30 Days to Reduce Anxiety by Harper Daniels and the book The Body Keeps the Score by Kolk. It's so important to be mindful.

Yes! The body is so wise and retains so much information. Tensing, relaxing, breathing, and mindfully “shaking it out” are all super helpful for releasing stored tension from the nervous system
