A much faster version of this video:
• Peugeot/Citroen (Ford,...
This 2007 Peugeot 307 has 147,000 miles but no records to show when its timing belt was last changed.
The parts that will be fitted in this process
New timing belt and water pump kit £70
New Coolant £10
Crankshaft oil seal £10
Stretch Type Auxiliary Belt £15
Auxiliary Belt Idler Pulley £20
This car has the 1.6 HDi engine. It has seen use in a wide range of Peugeot and Citroen models.
It is also used by ford and some of its past subsidiaries as well as the BMW mini.
As far as difficulty goes this is actually quite an easy belt to change, being a 1.6 going into an engine bay that can accommodate a 2.0 there is lots of space available. The only annoyance is the stretch type auxiliary belt which will be covered later on.

Did my 207 at 100k miles because I had a belt failure one time and I’m a bit paranoid about it. Makes sense to do the water pump and idlers whilst it’s apart.

The full kits that include the pump and idlers are great value as a kit I've always done the lot, but do get people ask if they can save a bit and avoid changing them, its definitely a false economy.

Hi mate Why do you need a flywheel locking tool aswell as pin hole at front? Also does the high pressure pump need timing up I thought they just pressurised the fuel? Great vid btw
@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, The flywheel locking pin seems to be an additional measure to hold it in place, i suppose it is handy if you need to change the oil seal behind the crankshaft sprocket and wanted to be 100% sure it was fixed in place. The High pressure pump indeed is not timed, but the kit had a pin for it and the pump had the holes to accept the pin. I suppose it makes installing the belt that bit easier if the sprockets are all sitting in a fixed location. It would all be possible with no pins and just some tippex but the pins seem to make the job that bit easier and help ensure it it correct.

@peugeotCitroen2CV

I think the DS3 will have the newer 8 valve version of the 1.6HDI I am currently working on a video for that engine, i did the cambelt on it in my berlingo. However if you have this video the 8v is actually almost identical, it doesnt have the stretch type auxillary belt tensioner which makes it easier.

At 2:14 you put a locking pin at the flywheel. I found the hole in the casing but no corresponding hole in flywheel. My car is a 307 1.6 hdi break from 2007. I took away the outer ring of the crankshaft sprocket to be able make a marking at belt and sprocket. Shouldn't done that.. Do anyone have an idea how to solve it 🤔
@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 3 жыл бұрын
It is possible that you are a revolution out? Im not sure if all aftermarket flywheels would have the hole drilled into them, but would imagine they should. It could simply not be at the right place. The outer ring, for the speed sensor? I think they were pressed onto the sprocket.
@henrybrolin3226

@@peugeotCitroen2CV Thank you for answer. I have revolved crank all way around and couldn't find any hole. About the ring for RPM measurement it was pressed into crankshaft pulley but it wasn't hard to take it away. Why I suspect that didn't get it right when I changed timing belt is that engine sounds more rough so to speak, and loss of power, lower mpg. I am from Sweden so if you see lack off writing knowledge you know why Thank you again for answering 😊

@@henrybrolin3226 That is odd, it perhaps is an aftermarket item In the event that the flywheel cant be locked if the camshaft sprocket, fuel pump sprocket and crankshaft sprockets are marked relative to their positions on the block at TDC that should suffice. You could perhaps be out a tooth which would result in the rough running. Best to have that resolved as soon as possible.
@henrybrolin3226
@henrybrolin3226 3 жыл бұрын
@@peugeotCitroen2CV I have talked to a technician at Peugeot and he also thought it was very odd. He told me that this engine doesn't use TDC for 'zeroing". They use some position in between were camshaft is not engaged, so no luck there. I think, as you do, it is a tooth wrong so next step will be to change one tooth at crankshaft and turn it slowly by hand. If it doesn't work l will try it one tooth the other way. The technician told me that this engine is extremely sensible when it comes to hit valves😬 I will post when I've tryed..

The subtitles vs spoken instructions debate. I speak with a northern irish accent, it's not the easiest to understand. Trying to speak to the camera while working is a bit akin to acting, trying to remember the lines, making mistakes and having to say it over again. Ive done it a couple of times but find it much more time consuming. Then at the edit stage find i have said something wrong and want to say it again. There is the tendency to waffle on, or throw in verbal ticks such as ummm, aaaaah, er, the odd bit of bad language may slip out or colloquialisms that may not make sense. Subtitles let me sit down and think exactly what i want to say as concisely as possible. The subtitles appear at a time in the video where they are needed, the next step in the process takes place and the new subtitle is needed. I generally try to set them to 10 seconds each, sometimes for the flow they are made shorter. However if they are too fast hit pause the subtitle will sit on the screen clear and easy to read. This is not something that is possible with spoken text. Subtitles is how i prefer to make these videos. There are plenty of channels out there each with their own unique approach to doing things.

@peugeotCitroen2CV
@peugeotCitroen2CV 3 жыл бұрын
@@Cristian8767 Hi Christian I generally dont mention the interval as i tend to forget haha. I think its roughly 100k miles or 10 years. Although i would always recommend to anyone that they check the service handbook that came with their vehicle or check online for the specific year. (2008 Peuegot 1.6 HDi cambelt change interval) although you are into a world of conflicting advice. The service handbook is the most accurate. I think your engine will be the same as the one featured in this video, the 8 valve 1.6 replaced this particular 16v engine. I plan to do a video on the 8v engine soon but the process is very similar to these 16v engines. The crank seal, it was a bit dirty around the crankshaft oil seal area and made sense for the sake of £10 to change it whilst in there. Not changing the water pump or other pulleys when doing a cambelt is perhaps something a dodgy used car dealer might try to keep costs to the absolute minimum but if its your own car the wee bit extra expense on parts will ensure you have a reliable car.
