Quick physics - an easy demonstration of photoelectric Effect

You dont need fancy equipment to demonstrate the photoelectric effect. Here is a quick demo that can be done in any classroom and even a home

@ 0:45 , actually Zinc Oxide has a higher work function energy than pure Zinc. That's why the surface is being cleaned to remove the layer of Zinc Oxide. The remaining exposed layer of pure Zinc will have a lower work function energy. Thus, making it more conducive to demonstrate the photoelectric effect.

I loved your previous video about Planck and the ultraviolet catastrophe. However, I think the use of the analogies in this clip confuse rather than clarify the photoelectric effect. On the other hand, the effect is counter intuitive in that light is a wave and photons and the experiment demomstrated sort of how the wave analogy isn't always good.

Nice simple demo, and this will work very nicely at the moment in glorious dry Sydney early Autumn......not convinced with the surfing analogy......and I don't think it would convince most students, sorry.

Another analogy I have is money based. I tell the students that need $6 to leave their chairs. But I only have $5 and $10 bills. No matter how many $5 bills I give out. No one will move. No pooling allowed. But if I give $10 bills they will move and have $4 to spend. And to highly differing metals, some students will have a minimum of$11 to move.
