Excellent video! I spent a tiny fraction of what this car costs on a loaded 981 Cayman S with PDK and sports exhaust and I reached the point where nearly every time I drove it I had to restrain myself or end up in traffic school again. After about 6 months of ownership I realized I was tired of dealing with traffic or being LIDAR sniped. In a relatively short period of ownership the car lost too much of its original appeal to where the car sat in the garage unused for weeks at a time until I finally got rid of it. It took owning an amazing sounding naturally aspirated flat 6 mid engine Porsche to realize that owning a performance sports car was meaningless and why I finally understand why its more fun driving a much slower car fast.

I drove one at a track event and it really is such an amazing sound to it! You first hear the Ferrari sound, and then as the turbos kick in, it sounds like a jet taking off literally!

From the extreme frustration Mark experiences driving the Ferrari in commuting traffic, to his confession when the road opens up that this car would cost him his license, it’s hard not to come to the conclusion he’d be having more fun in a Mazda MX-5.

This is why i always say, more than 500hp in a road car is a waste. 300-400 is the sweet spot. Preferably with a manual transmission. Leave the 650hp DCTs for track day.

Just came across this today. What a great reviewer! ---- On another note, today I heard my first 488 Spider ( In TDF blue I think) accelerate right in front of me! That is by far the best, most honest, brain-driven video of a Ferrari I've seen on the net. And I've seen many. Most others drift their ass off or go flat out with those things over a track, which is something a lifelong fan of the brand would never ever do, because you wouldn't wanna put so much stress to the chassis, the tires, the suspension , the brakes. You'd have to pay for every mile a ton of money and it would diminish the respect you have for the car. Those 1-percenters, they're different. They have no respect, not for the car, not for the brand,not for other people and most of the time not even for themselves if they were honest. So your review is that of a car-enthusiast really diggin' in the problem of having one of these and being responsible for maintaining such a treat. Thanks and a happy new year 2018!

I love these super cars but I'll never have any desire to own one. It would feel like owning a cheetah that I kept in my 4,000 sq ft backyard. My brain couldn't tolerate the incongruity and the enjoyment of ownership would be gone.
@fernandofragoso41186 жыл бұрын
atl3630 Totally agree. I have the desire but its not a very usable car on the road. On public roads the best space to put all the power down is on highways, but then other problem comes in, highways are not twisty roads nor tracks. Its always long wide corners, not a big variety of corners like most of us like... These cars are getting very overpowered to be explored. In some ways what i feel is that the cars are much safer on one side, but on the other are much faster, so i guess we're coming back to the oldschool balance in terms of safety. People wont die from crash at 60kmh anymore. Now die from crashes at 160kmh and above, not generally speaking of course.

This is why if I was buying a new supersport motorcycle these days, it would be a 300cc. Maximum revving fun anywhere. (Although the vibration and rough engine sound might bother me a bit.) It would also be super-affordable compared to a 600, and a 125 would be stupid compared to it because not that cheaper.

Just subscribed. Really appreciate your take on my favorite Ferrari. I was able to drive the 488 Spider around the Ferrari factory in Maranello and it was magical. The entire town is Ferrari and yet, just a 1/2 hour away, Sant'Agata Bolognese is all Lamborghini. I was at the Ferrari dealership today looking at the 488 GTB and the spider. It's a beautiful sport car, the design is a work of art. I have a GT3RS, and I found the Ferrari is more exotic with state of art engineering from Ferrari. What a machine! 🦅🦅🇺🇸

savagegeese I guess that the 488 Pista is more into that hardcore type of driving that we find on the GT3RS. Havent drove the 488 but as i saw in some reviews including yours, its seems a well refined sport drivers car but not an hardcore experience. I guess the 488 Pista is the answer to that compromise.

I simply did not want to get out of it after the test drive haha. f.y.i it cost us $560k in aus with a few extras =[ so much more expensive here due to 33% luxury car tax + 10% gst tax on all items, but still love the video, cant wait to get our 488 =] sub'd

Thank you for the down to earth, honest appraisal of this car. So many other channels just offer blind mindless worship and immature gawking mentality of wow it’s a Ferrari. I don’t like how they justify the price by focusing on colored stitching and supple leather-ridiculously aspects immaterial to the where the true value of the car, its engine and transmission. The unremarkable under body and generic aluminum cast wishbone suspension really hit home the fact that it’s just another car that is just called Ferrari. And when you were honest that no one would ever really get to experience the full potential of the car in everyday driving, aside from the mindless posers who just use the cars cache to attract other stupid ignorant wannabes, I really got to thinking that I might regret buying one. The fact that they tend to lose value quickly after 10k miles finally explains the reason of why there are so many low mileage cars of this caliber for sale. It’s like each owner just is able to finance the car for one year, putting another 5k to 10k mikes on it before passing it to the next financing dreamer. Each paying for the depreciation of the car each time. Sad, when you think about how the car is passed around and used like a hot twenty yr old model in Hollywood exploited over and over until she turns 32 then she is forgotten because the next hot young thing has arrived. Well, I suppose that is the nature of fate of beauty.
