I've been cutting my own hair for two years now with scissors. I don't know how to use the clippers and the comb so i just use my hands for the guidelines and scissors for the entire head. I can pretty much cut any style except for skin fades lol. One tip i want to give you'll is to cover the sink with a newspaper so that you can just collect the hair and throw it all away.

Glad to know I'm not the only one! I do the same process, except I do venture into the number 1 and 2 right at the edges around the ears and neck, it looks great that way. It's certainly doesn't replace the pro's but you no longer have to depend on them for a decent look. Great job by the way

I've watched a lot of DIY Haircuts, but yours is perfect for my hair. My hair is like yours long and straight. No wave, curls, close cropped or wiry, so a lot of videos weren't applicable. Home barbering requires some practice but it depends on the haircut you choose and how difficult you want to make it. In my experience, a modern short sidepart is quite easy and there are millions of videos on it. For starters, don't do a fade. I always do 13mm on sides and back, maybe a little shorter in my neck. Always straight up, and the top 28mm. Always wash and dry hair in the cut you want and then start cutting. All the rest is practice and a decent tool like a Philips hc9450 with adjustable lengths. (You're not depending on guards)
