I have watched lots of self-cut tutorial videos, and so far, yours are my favorite and by far the best ones on KZbin IMO. As one of your viewers commented, you don’t over complicate things. His instructions worked well for my hair! Some take away thoughts for newbies like myself: 1) Unless your hair is identical to his, you will need to adapt his instructions to your style. 2) Like he mentions several times in at least the two videos of his I watched, START with the larger numbered guards first, until you are confident in your cuts. 3) Take your time, practice your movements before you actually cut. I actually cut my hair in two days, my spouse mentioned that I didn't do the fade correctly on the first try. So I went back the next morning and finished that using this video. The key is that you will develop your technique on your own. I don't cut my hair everyday, but over time I will get better and better at it and learn new tricks. Have confidence, hair grows back! Also, take a picture when you are done (using the wall mirror and selfie mode) so you have a reference photo for next time.

I’ve watched your videos on and off for a few years now, almost getting the courage to do this but not quite there. The news that my barber would be unavailable for around 1-2 months with my hair already reaching beyond comfort made me try. Your technique of reassurance and demonstration made me feel much better about the first few passes. By the time time I got to the first side, I did as suggested and started with the thickest clip and worked down to comfort level. While I didn’t follow the same lengths as you, I did have a fantastic result. Thank you and looking forward to many more trims.🎉

Key thing is to get a set of proper clippers. the lever helps for fade but not essential. first time i tried it with beard trimmer and made a total mess. after using clippers it was far easier and Im not going back to a barber any time soon , waiting 45 mins to have a cut. I think barbers deserve the money for their skill but the queuing + covid situation is keeping me at home for now

Leaving a note for myself: - 19mm, top to front, along the growth direction of the hair. - 13mm, side and behind, lift straight up and away from head. - 10mm, blend side and top. - 6mm, side and behind, go up to 1.5cm below the line of previous step. - 3mm, side and behind, again fade into 6mm. - No guard/trimmer, to create crisp line on neck and fade to 0. - Done!
