I think all card tricks are cool whether self-working or sleight of hand. And, I appreciate you taking the time to share them with us. Unfortunately, I am too uncoordinated to pull of a card trick; I could practice a card trick 100 times and still manage to screw it up in front of family and friends.

When I was young, my grandfather used to do a self-working card trick that was impressive to us kids. He would lay out four kings face up and say that four men stayed at a motel and each rented a room. He would them lay four queens of the same suit face up on top of the kings and say that the men invited their wives to stay with them at the hotel. He would then lay a jack of the same suit on top of each of those face cards and say that each of them invited a friend to stay with them in the hotel room. Finally, he would add that the guests were getting too loud so someone called the sheriffs to come stay at the hotel to keep things in order. With that, he would lay an Ace of the same suit on top of each of those face cards. To finish the trick, Grandpa said that the guests decided that this arrangement wasn't going to work. He would scoop up the cards and ask me to cut them again and again as many times as I wanted. He would lay out the cards face up, only now it worked that all the kings were in the same room, the queens in their own, as were the jacks, and the aces. For such a simple trick, it always impressed me. Of course, anything Grandpa did impressed me.

Nice, also a good one to use to get your card to the top and do something else. Like a ritual. Simple example: Text them a prediction. Do the 'ritual' Magician gives pack a riffle shuffle while talking (maintain top card - i dont do sleight of hand magic but this is dead easy). Tip: dont mention your shuffling, it'll be a subconscious 'they were extra mixed' Now do the cross force. Spectator cuts the cards anywhere they want. (don't complete). Cross force needs time misdirection. Here you remind them of the prediction and get them to look at their phone etc. Now reveal where they cut to!

I have stupidly small hands, so have difficulty with sleight of hand. I like the self working card tricks. I'm a support worker, performed four at work recently, and the lad I support and my colleague were very impressed. It's all to do with the presentation: add in a bit of flair and penache, and the results can be just as good as any of the more difficult card tricks.

Cool effect, but for good magic to be great, it all depends on the presentation. 🙂

Another way to turn the three-tens outcome into a more fooling trick is coerce the spectator (or a different spectator) into swapping one or two of the selections with random cards from their shuffled pack. It'll look even stronger and not like you're cleaning up a sticky situation.

Yes, Self working tricks not only look more fooling but they are easy for beginners because it's easy to mess up and it's obvious from people's perspective that , the magician is onto some tricks , while we see a magic trick being performed by a pro magician 🤗

Wow, I honestly have a hard time believing that this extremely simple mathematical card effect would fool anyone who can add and subtract whole numbers. If this video ends up getting hundreds of thousands of views (and tens of thousands of likes), human civilization is on fast track for utter extinction.

I think you missed the bit where they cut the pack at the start. You and I know (as weve watched the video) that it all falls apart if they cut past 34 cards, but the person cutting (and hopefully not going past 34, and Id assume most dont) thinks they have just generated a totally random number. From a totally random number start, the trick looks magic. Of course, as said, the trick is the start number is not random (as such). So the requirement to add and subtract has nothing to do with how the person is 'fooled'. So there you go, ive saved civilization for you :-)

Nah, man. Magic is easy if you know the destination and then can work out easily how they got there. The spectator doesn't know where its going, they don't know that the shuffle and random cards don't matter, they don't know what counts they need to pay attention to, they don't know that you planted a card at a particular location at the middle of the deck. A genius non-magician might have an inkling that the procedure adds up to a constant number of cards but may forget that you didn't shuffle the entire deck. Add a false shuffle and/or false cut at the beginning and even brainiacs will only have half the trick figured out.
