WoW!!! This is a very important tip to really see like a painter, instead of seeing what I think I see. I can’t wait to do these excercises, until I can see like a painter naturally. Thank you Diane.

Well Dianne, yet again you have “saved my bacon”! I’ve been very discouraged at the lack of improvement in my oil painting, Even though I’m painting almost every day- in fact I’m going backwards. I’ll be going back to basics and trying to see better using your acronym (as a reminder) and good advice! Thankyou

Just doing exercise to practice the things I'm showing these Quick Tips can be extremely valuable to helping you move forward. Back to basics is often where we find our solutions. Enjoy the journey.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have a very basic question and was wondering if you could answer that. How do you keep your colors from drying? I am a watercolor artist slowly getting into oils. I bought a gray tray for my Cobra water mixable paints. I am only able to use my paints once a week. I cover my tray with a wooden board. I have noticed that my colors are drying and a few colors like permanent orange and green are forming some sort of blobs/plastic layer. Do you have any advise for me please? Thanks in advance!

Mona, when I need colors to stay wet from one session to the next, I give them all a very fine mist spary of 50/50 linseed oil/gamsol, then lay a sheet of plastic wrap over them and run my fingers around each color area to push out the bubbles. Oil oxidizes so shutting the oxygen out will keep the colors moist.

@@IntheStudioArtInstruction Thank you! So you don't keep them in a refrigerator?
@leonieknowles2832

Mona, oil paints dry by oxidising so you need an airtight container, such as Dianne is suggesting by using the plastic wrap and pushing out the air. You can put traditional oils in the freezer but I am not sure how water mixables would go. I use a stay wet palette for my traditional oils and some colors will last a week or longer depends on how quickly they dry. I would think you could revitalise WM by giving them a quick spray with water but I am no expert

A stay-wet palette without the need to freeze?! That is a very interesting idea. I've used a stay-wet palette only for acrylics.@@leonieknowles2832

I will put Bavura brushwork on our calendar. We film several weeks in advance, so it will be late October or early November before it appears. Thanks for the suggestion.

@@IntheStudioArtInstructionI think It might be unpracticed hands. If I have two objects of different colors bordering eachother i can’t seem to be as precise as I would be with a color pencil for example. Mostly it’s when one color will cross very narrowly into the other color

Do you recommend a certain color wheel?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction
@IntheStudioArtInstruction Жыл бұрын
I prefer the traditional 12-hue color wheel where the complements are exactly opposite each other. I have a free one available in pdf at diannemize.com/product-category/video-supplements/page/3/ Cursor down to the bottom row.
