Though I work in watercolors, I can appreciate a lot of this theory. I wonder if Zinc white wouldn't provide more transparency. Anyway, "Complement (Complete)" is about 'completing' the color wheel. Like: Blue and orange as compliments = Blue + Red and Yellow, which, in a perfect world, create Grey or Black. (I'm just throwing that in for the viewers). [What a gift these Quick Tips are!!]

You're right, zinc white is more transparent but it's not as good for a strong white.

Thank You! A time ago I started experimenting with multiple whites. Then I discovered sometimes yellow light appears as white with certain color schemes.

Hi Dianne. Great quick tip as always. Do you have any use for unbleached titanium or titanium "buff" as it's also called? Do you find it to be any less chalky than conventional titanium white?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction16 күн бұрын
Hi Rich. No, I find that I can tint titanium white with even better results.

do you mean muddy, that's from mixing too many hues or whit and black all together, but if you are using oil paint, too much , "too", much solvent, turps, spirits etc make it less shiny whereas adding more linseed oil makes it more shiny, it's like gloss verses matt
@IntheStudioArtInstruction9 күн бұрын
No, I really meant chalky. Muddy had to do with colors not relating as color, usually because there is either not enough value contrast or color harmony is off. This tip wasn't about surface quality, but the quality of color.
