I have painted my sisters son with watercolor a 10 yrs ago. I had this same trouble of preserving the painting in a frame. Most times even frames that are tightly made will get moist into the frame and gradually the paper tend to develop fungus. Particularly if the wall is generating moisture. A couple of my art got spoiled by fungus previously. So what I did this time is... I simply got the art laminated neatly so it is now airtight and framed this laminated sheet into frame. This work always looks good as new. Isn't it a wonderful idea to preserve watercolor.
@LanaGoesArt4 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, you must live in a very humid when even the wall have moisture! I did not experience that level so far, but laminating seems like a good idea considering. The method i show is solely to preserve the surface, whereas your case needs protection from all sides.

Krylon Kamar Varnish + any of your favorite clear sprays or brush on sealants will work.
@LanaGoesArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I don't know about that specific one, but yes that would work. But it gives a different results. Some don't want their watercolors to look glossy and want to keep the original look. Different techniques, different products, different results. :) I definitely like varnish, that dries matte for other projects. ;)
@missvickie19753 жыл бұрын
@@LanaGoesArt if someone (like me) doesnt want their watercolor to look glossy, they can just use a matte sealant on top of the Kamar. Or maybe they prefer super glossy, so they can choose Triple Thick. I use a brush-on clear fluid matte medium as my top coat.
@LanaGoesArt3 жыл бұрын
@@missvickie1975 I'm confused, what is the Kamar?
@missvickie19753 жыл бұрын
@@LanaGoesArt Krylon Kamar Varnish, a clear spray. It is "non-yellowing protection for oil, acrylic, and watercolor." It's also good for sealing alcohol & other inks. The can also says it "keeps a fresh-from-the-pallet look", is "acid-free", and "allows easy rework". Once you put on 1-3 thin coats of that, you can add most other clear coats on top of it, to finish it however you want (in matte or glossy). Before Kamar came along, i used a product called "Preserve Your Memories", but it was kind of pricey.
@LanaGoesArt3 жыл бұрын
@@missvickie1975 ah, got it. There are many spray fixatives like that. I have one by Schmincke, which I occasionally use, but I don't like the smell and that it needs several coats to seal properly. I've used it on my wood pieces though, especially with metallic accents - as you said, they look best with that. The good thing about the wax as an alternative is, that is almost odor free and needs only one coat. For postcards and envelopes it's my personal favourite. :) But yeah, there are options.

I Made a Phone cover with paint colors But Its not waterproof Can I Make them water proof By applying transparrent nail paint over them.?
@LanaGoesArt5 жыл бұрын
What kind of colours did you use? If it was acrylic paint, I recommend a varnish to seal in the paint. If it was watercolour, I found that a fixative and a varnish would work best. On my current wood art with watercolour, I used 4 layers of fixative and after 3 layers of varnish. :) I don't have experience with nail polish, but I know on some paint it can dry or become sticky after a while. If you're on a budget, craft stores often have cheap varnish, you could use that too.

if I want to submerge the painting after sealing it, like say, with resin, would using the wax work if I made sure all the sides were covered so nothing could seep in?
@LanaGoesArt3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tammy, for that cause I would probably use watercolour varnish or spray fixative, but I never tried it with watercolour paintings before. For photos I used acrylic varnish, but acrylic varnish directly on watercolour would activate the paint.
