My hydrangeas are cover with weed barrier fabric and landscape rocks. I feel like granular just sits on top. Can I use water soluble??

Yes, but know that granular fertilizers will release their nutrients through weathering (exposure to sun, wind, moisture), and that water will still carry the nutrients through the fabric and into the earth for the plant to take up. ☀

Do u sprinkle the fertilizer at the base of the hydrangea plant or do u work it in

You can sprinkle the fertilizer around the soil above the rootball and water it in 🙂

By over fertilizing them cause them to remain short ?? I have a couple of plants but they won't grow any taller than 5 inches (they will bloom just the height I'm failing at) . Any tips? Thank you!

Fertilizing wouldn't stunt the growth, do you know what type of hydrangea you have and how old it is?

Do u have it planted in full sun? I can’t imagine a hydrangea not growing more than 5”. In ground or in a pot? If in a pot it won’t grow larger than the pot allows its roots to expand. If in a pot, choose a new pot and little larger than the one it’s in.

The edges of my leaves are turning brown. It’s a petite Paris bush. Could some of the fertilizer gotten on it or ???

It is possible depending on the fertilizer used, however this seems like it could be an issue with too much sun. Are all of the leaves having this issue?

Thank you! Not all no, just a few of the lower ones. Should I cut off the edges or leave be? Also, are aphids an issue? There doesn’t seem to be a pest issue but I know they’re lurking around. When I sprayed a rose bush it burned the foliage and prefer not to use chemicals unless necessary. Thank you again!

@@georgemanko436 You'll want to just leave them be so no new surface area will be damaged. As for the aphids, they aren't typically a problem, but are susceptible to them. A chemical free way to get rid of aphids (though a bit gross to be honest) is to spray the leaves with a hose and then rub the aphids off with your hands. It isn't the prettiest job but it takes care of those little pests!

@@pwcolorchoice I'm laughing because that's exactly what I do, squish them. Thank you for mentioning that, never would have admitted it otherwise. They seem to be endless tho and would like to rub soap but theyre close to blooming and I don't want to interfere with it. As for the hydrangea I've noticed that before the edges turn brown, they're reddish in color. Pretty sure it was the fertilizer resting on the leaves.

Is Invincibelle related to Annabelle? Annabelles do great here, and I'd love a pink version!

Yes! 'Annabelle' is essentially the grandmother of the Invincibelle hydrangea series. They are improved versions with stronger stems, and larger flowers of a deeper, truer pink. :)

My hydrangeas don’t bloom lots of leaves. But I do have rose plants next to it which I fertilized them and May be that’s why they don’t bloom and just grow with healthy leaves ?

After several years of my hydrangea not blooming, I did a mixture of coffee grounds with crushed egg shells and this year I have blooms. I also watered with Miracle-Gro Bloom booster

Correct! Any woody plant fertilizer will work for all types of hydrangeas, it isn't specific to the hydrangea :)

You can apply a granular rose fertilizer to help provide more nutrients as the hydrangea is getting established. Spring is a great time to do so!
