he was very close to making his message straignt but at the end I was confused. Is TA the first note in triplet and CO is second and third or is TA first and second note in triplet and CO is third note in triplet ?

Each of those quarter notes are worth the word TACO is how I understood it
@aliveormedicated Жыл бұрын
appreciate the video. silly question but why is the half note get 3 beats??
@QuickStartClarinet Жыл бұрын
I am assuming you are talking about the 3 quarter note triplets within a half note. That is how quarter note triplets work. A half note has 2 quarter notes, but there are 3 quarter note triplets in the same half note. This is why the counting for quarter note triplets is a little tricky because it is 3 notes over the duration of 2 beats.
@regularbloke74103 жыл бұрын
so TA is always first note in a tie and CO is always second note in a tie assuming that we count from left to right ? It means that when we play only TA is played and CO is not played and is only extension of TA ?
@QuickStartClarinet3 жыл бұрын
I think this is closer than your other comment. 8th note triplets are three notes per quarter note. Quarter note triplets are two 8th note triplets tied together. So if you say ta-co (or any two syllable word) at the speed of 8th note triplets the beginning of that word is the start of each quarter note triplet. You will think taco taco taco in your head but only start notes on the ta and sustain through the co. Does that make sense?
@regularbloke74103 жыл бұрын
@@QuickStartClarinet yes, thanks for reply
@joannmannello91583 жыл бұрын
so the CO in ta-CO would be the tie you let CO ring out?
@QuickStartClarinet3 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly. The Ta is the start of the quarter note triplet and the Co is sustained through and keeps track of the 8th note triplet subdivision.

Wow, Josh, thanks. If it is that simple why does everyone make it so damn confusing???
@bensomberg5 ай бұрын
I still like this, but after trying to implement it, I realize that the important element is how fast do you say "taco taco taco"? Taco is two syllables, just like "one and" is two syllables. But if you have quarter note triplets, you must say "taco taco taco" (six syllables) in the same amount of time as you would say "one and two and" (four syllables). For me, anyway, it is hard to modulate my speed to match that requirement.
@QuickStartClarinet5 ай бұрын
@bensomberg that is exactly what makes quarter note triplets a little tricky. Start by getting the 8th note triplet subdivision going (so 6 notes over two quarter note beats) then you say taco at that pace and you will get your 3 groupings of two syllables. Start by saying 1 triplet 2 triplet Then taco taco taco at the same speed Then each “ta” of the tacos is the quarter note triplet. It definitely takes some practice but try doing those 3 steps and you will get it!

Years ago I had a teacher who said the quarter note triplet was to be played as short-long-short I have no idea where he got that from and never understood why he would teach it that way.
@QuickStartClarinet2 жыл бұрын
That is very weird! My best guess is to avoid the long long short perhaps?

Could you please do another video where you count the quarter note triplets while a loud metronome plays quarter notes in the background?
@QuickStartClarinet2 жыл бұрын
Maybe. Are you wanting to hear how it lines up with the beat? If so you can search KZbin for a 2 against 3 rhythm perhaps. It ends up being exactly the same as the rhythm 1 2 + 3 in 3/4. 123 is the triplet and 1 + is the metronome, hopefully that makes sense!
@rebeccamouse92942 жыл бұрын
@@QuickStartClarinet Yes that is what I was wanting to hear. I am sure your reply makes sense to people who are a bit smarter than I am, but I can’t follow it, but thank you.

@@rebeccamouse9294 Not smarter, just more familiar! (Specifically more familiar with understanding my rambling) Here is a good video demonstrating how they fit together: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYTWm6l8qJeAo9k The blue mallet is the quarter note and the red one is the quarter note triplet. Hopefully hearing that will also make sense of my above explanation where the rhythm sounds like 1 2 + 3 with the red mallet being 1 2 3 and the blue one being 1 +.

Isn't it just easier to see each quarter note as 2 eighth notes and only play the first eighth note of each quarter note?
@QuickStartClarinet4 ай бұрын
Assuming you mean eighth and quarter note triplets, then that is exactly what this exercise is.
@richardjones28114 ай бұрын
@@QuickStartClarinet No, Imagine 2 eighth notes tied together so if you played them on guitar then it would be a downstroke and an upstroke to play the second 8th note. Now imagine 3 of these groups of two together so you have 3 double 8th notes. Play the first note, don't play the second then continue this for the last 2. That's a much simpler way of keeping time when playing quarter triplets.
@QuickStartClarinet4 ай бұрын
@richardjones2811 that’s exactly what saying taco (two eights) and then just ta (the first eighth) is doing. It’s actually quite similar to the downstroke and upstroke that you are talking about just more appropriate for a wind instrument.
