Say that was pretty spot-on dude the only downside about a gate over ramps is that a gate will catch so much freaking air going down the highway I had borrowed a trailer to go pick up my welding machine the little trailer that I had wasn't big enough to haul it damn thing weighed 1800 pounds SAE 350 with the deutz diesel I think I average 10 miles a gallon with machine and trailer gate well worth it though bro

Great job. But on the next one...flip the angle iron around on the end of the gate that touches the ground . For a flatter meet on harder surfaces.

I love watching you work, but when you’re using the handheld cutting wheel/grinder I just wince, and count your fingers each time. You’re so good at what you do, I’ve learned a lot watching but I can’t watch the freehand cutting any more.

Love this video, I am new to welding and I've read that if you weld with your skin exposed on your hands it's very dangerous for skin cancer. I see you weld with bare hands. Is this just a myth?

Only problem with home made trailers or any trailer is on the Interstate... If they pull you over they will give you every ticket they can think of... A friend of mine... Got pulled over by a state trooper in I-65 in Birmingham Alabama... He got a tickets for No Tag or Registration... Bad tires... Load not properly and safely secured down... No brakes on at least one axle... and a broken trailer light... They made him leave the trailer on the side of the road until he could have a roll back truck come pick it up...
@joebriggs95997 жыл бұрын
I only weld outdoors can i get away with using my mig with gas? I have been using flux core wire in my mig. Do you have a problems with the gas blowing away and giving crappy welds?

When I built my trailer I positioned the hinges so the gate can lay flat on trailer deck when possible, that gate creates a lot of drag standing up like a sail.
@hashdfw7 жыл бұрын
What mcms said. That big ramp is okay for short trips but really catches a lot of air at hiway speeds. I'd suggest you cut those hinges off and use something removable. They don't really need to be greaseable since you're not moving the gate up and down hundreds of times a day.
@diversedad79545 жыл бұрын
Thats what I plan to do on the converted boat/utility project I just purchased today. I love my tilt trailer because there is never all the drag from an upright gate. But I love how handy a gate is especially if I'm loading multiple machines on. Gonna try to fabricate something that can stand up like his or lay inside the bed still attached.

Hey Allen what state do you live in ?
@stayingawake207 жыл бұрын
Allen, I live in Ky. and haul trailers all the time. Trailer lights essential if you can't see your trucks tail lights. Over 16 feet requires a tag, but they'll go with the laws in your state. If not required there, then not required here. They don't give 2 craps about a home made trailer, no worries there. If you have farm tags on your truck you are pretty much untouchable. Pretty much. I could drive a semi down the road with no Class A with farm tags and wouldn't have to stop at a weigh station. Carry a spare, some roads here suck! Just sayin. Be safe Brother. Thanks for the vids!
@Allensweldingwoodworking7 жыл бұрын
stayingawake20 thanks for the info! Farm tags are kind of the same in Louisiana... I'm in Memphis now, will be in Kentucky tomorrow

That's a Carry On trailer,the one you're not using. I used to work at Carry On. I wouldn't carry my chainsaw on that piece of crap, you're better off building your own. I quit Carry On because of how they had us build those trailers.
